Car Collection For Sale: British and American Classics

A seller on craigslist has posted a collection of cars and trucks that includes some very unusual finds, including this Lincoln Zephyr with a four-speed manual! The collection is located in Iowa just south of Mt. Pleasant and includes several classic trucks as well as British sports cars. Find the whole listing here on craigslist with no specific prices listed, and check out that sweet Zephyr!

This 1967 Triumph Spitfire convertible looks like a decent project with good body panels and pretty chrome bumpers. The top looks slightly rough and the windows cloudy, but a replacement top will take care of that. The seller also has a clean 1973 MG convertible that appears to be a partially unfinished restoration project, along with a 1961 Morris Minor convertible.

Trucks make an appearance as well, including this 1966 Chevrolet factory camper, with a camper shell that appears to be in excellent cosmetic condition. No photos of the inside which is a big deciding factor on whether a convertible is worth grabbing, but if it’s remained water-tight, things should look good inside.

This 1951 Chevy panel truck clearly needs a paint job, but given their focus on being utilitarian and not much else, I can’t see it needing an interior refresh beyond sticking two front seats in the cabin. Other vehicles in the collection include a pretty 1951 Chrysler Windsor and a 1940 Chevy Special Deluxe. Nothing here should prove to be too costly, but the Zephyr is the one I’d grab. What about you?

That would be a Mercury, not Lincoln Zephyr.

That’s right Z1Rider, I owned one briefly in 1983, with a V-8 in it no less, and it was strange and wonderful. Especially at stoplights. There is an extremely rare version of this model called a Durango I think, that comes up for sale rarely. It’s
a pickup, several were made, and i don’t know the story. This is a nice driver. Give it what it needs and enjoy. You will be unique; there aren’t many left.

The craigslist ad is about one shade above worthless. One pic per vehicle, and no descriptions. The Zephyr might be interesting, if we knew a little about it.

In my experience, when no prices are listed the answer is, “Way too much.” Many people with unfinished project vehicles tend to gauge their subjective value by comparing to restored versions.

My first car was a Fairmont Futura, the Ford version of this Mercury. It had the 2.3 Lima 4 cyl with the four-speed manual.
What a dog. I felt the same as a teenager as I do today, better for me to drive a slow car with a manual than a fast one with an automatic.
I currently have a freshly built 331 stroker on an engine stand that would power this Mercury nicely. That motor with a five-speed would be the the Fairmont reimagined the way it never was.

My first brand new car was a 1980 Mercury Zephyr. 200 CID was very reliable. Downside was lack of power and not very good fuel economy.

Seller needs to pick a marque and stick with it. Not many people in my world who would/could dedicate this much real estate on multiple British convertibles, big ‘murican sedans from the 40-50s, big old Chevy trucks, and Fox platform 3-boxes. His choice of man cave decoration lacks imagination too.

1980 mercury Zephyr……what possibly could be less collectible then that car?

Always had more dreams than money or time to make them come true. The B pillar of the Futura/Zephyr coupe reminds me of that on a tri-five Chevy Nomad. Want to take a four eyed Mustang front clip and the roof from a Fairmont wagon, put them on the Zephyr and you’d have a Musmad or Notang.

I spoke to the wife about buying the entire collection.

She is out looking for a Seniors Mental Institution for me. Not for both of us, just me 🤣

I owned a very nice looking 81 Mercury Zephyr Z7 with the 3.3. I sold it to a guy who drove a rental from out of state, and drove the Zephyr back. I also owned the Ford Fairmont conversion (81 Ford Durango) by National Coachworks in LA. It had the 3.3 also. I sold that one b/c it needed more work than I had money.
