Cheapest Gullwing Around! 1970 Bradley GT

The seller of this 1970 Bradley GT has been storing it for a future day that never came, so it’s now listed for sale here on eBay. I suspect they may have to lower the opening bid of $2,000 to get the car sold, but who knows for sure? It’s located in Lapeer, Michigan, the hometown of L. S. Cramton who is known as the “Father of the National Park System”; very appropriate as this gullwing car has apparently been parked for a long time!

Although the photography in this ad leaves something to be desired, it is nice to see the gullwing doors intact and able to open and close. The rigid frames around the windows tell me that this may be the improved GT II kit; the original had very flimsy windows without frames. However, that rear window will need to be replaced; the seller tells us it is flat glass, so at least sourcing isn’t a problem.

The seller was kind enough to source some pictures of what a completed and road-ready Bradley GT II could look like. Although some later GT II cars were produced that were factory assembled and there was even an electric version (GTE), the car for sale appears to be a standard GT II as best as I can tell. Production figures vary, but I did find a couple of sources that agreed around 6,000 Bradley GT/GT II/GTE kits were produced from 1970 to 1981.

Apart from gauges and perhaps the seat structures you’re going to have to start from scratch inside. However, considering there was no “right” way to do it let your imagination run wild! Personally, I see plaid seats as were fitted to particular Porsche 914s, or at least a less-expensive imitation.

The seller tells us this is a good but stock 1600 cc single-port engine. Given all the performance parts that are out there for this engine, I’d have a hard time just leaving it stock. What do you think about this gull-winged wonder?

Yes, it’s on a VW Beetle (original) platform.

Definitely a GT II! Looks pretty solid so as long as the windshield is intact, it’s probably worth doing.

Ever since I was a kid I thought it would be so awesome to have a Bradley GT. From what i understand, Gary Courneya is my dad, gerald’s cousin. (Their dads were brothers) I still remember how exciting was. My dad saving the newspaper articles written. I have never met my dads cousin, cBut it would be awesome
Unfortunately I am penniless and disable I can only dream of driving one of these babies across the US or visiting our Canadian heritage. To whomever buys this car…Enjoy fixing this baby up!😀
