I sure love the style of this Buick Riviera! It’s claimed to be a one owner survivor that’s all original. If it is, it’s in amazing condition. The paint looks fantastic, the interior is beautiful and the engine bay is clean. These cars were quite impressive in their day, with tons of creature comforts, those killer clam shell headlights and a 401 cui Nailhead V8! I know I’d love to cruise around in this Buick, but how about you? If so, you can find it here on eBay in Nine Mile Falls, Washington with a current bid of $15k.

Mid 60’s personal luxury at its best, imo! I believe it did have a 425 c.i. 2x4bbl option that was a beast, too bad the car was so heavy.

I think it started as nail valve. Because the valve stems were long and skinny and looked almost like nails. I could be wrong but I owned a 65 Riviera and that’s what I remember.
Had a twin to this, it was my first return from Vietnam ride.
One of the many unique features of this body style was door skins that bolted on. Take a look at the pics and you will see acorn nuts around the door edges.
Forgot about that. Good thing I have about 100 photos of almost every car I owned.
the door skins bolted on because the Riviera was GMs first hardtop with frameless door glass and they had not yet figured out the packaging/engineering to access and adjust from the inside.
I remember when I had my 63 Riv, my dad was like “woah! the door skins! They re bolted on!” Pretty crazy.
I had one that had a ton of machine work porting polishing done to the 401. It would scream even though it was a boat. I wonder where it is now?
It is called a nailhead as the valves stems stick straight up rather then at an angle. I had a ’65 with dual fours and don’t worry about the weight. In straight line I dusted many a Camaro, Mustang and Corvette, zero to 60 in around 7 seconds.

They are really great looking cars. The interiors looked much better than other cars of that era. I loved the dash too. Very classy.

GM nailed the sixties.
You always had to do beucou work on any GM or ford car to get it to run well. When I came back from Nam in 69 I acquired a used Dodge Coronet, race ready from factory. Aquired 67 Olds Tornado later and it was hot. First year of Dodge 440 and first year olds with 455 were fast cars. But the riveria still had them beat style wise. Still have Dodge
