Clean Bird: 1969 Pontiac Firebird Convertible

69-firebird-convertable

Get this 1969 Firebird just in time for some fall top down weather. Very clean throughout, this Pontiac has some minor rust that wouldn’t stop you from enjoying this beautiful convertible. Currently packing a crate engine, this Firebird has been long stored for 20 years. So you might not make the fall top down weather, but this is a very nice project that needs little work to be resurrected. Currently bid up to $7,250 with a little less than 2 days left, we wonder what this Firebird will sell for. Find it here on ebay out of Brooklyn, New York.

The engine bay is dusty just like the exterior. The engine is listed as a “crate engine” with no further information. But we assume that this ‘Bird has received a newer engine either after being unearthed, or when it was put away 20 years ago. Also we don’t know the condition of the crate engine but we assume that it means the engine is healthy. There looks to be some over spray on the upper part of the inner fenders in the engine bay, but otherwise the engine bay looks nice.

The interior is nice looking to need nothing! The driver seat is a little lumpy, so perhaps this seat has been recovered in its lifetime. Other than that there is little else to scrutinize. The top does look very nice, as does the exterior body work. The paint looks nice from what we can see, and we rather like the color on this Firebird. We would opt for some factory wheels for this one, and enjoy it, while fixing the little bit of underbody work that needs some rust repair. The underbody rot issues aren’t severe as the areas are small. The trunk floor looks to have some rust issues as well, but nothing that is full on rot yet, and there appear to be no holes yet. Overall this is a nice looking Firebird making for a great project for someone.

Soap and water, check the mechanicals, and get some original style wheels and this Firebird would be ready for street duty. How many of you are itching for a Firebird now? We know we are, and this particular example looks to be a nice solid car with some minor needs. What do you think the final selling price will be for this 1969 Pontiac Firebird?

I love the ’69 Firebird and this one looks pretty nice. Seller didn’t wipe off 20 years of dust but he started the engine right up? Hope they did it right.

Lose the wheels for some period slotted aluminum style or Cragers and swap that automatic to a 4 speed

A friend just bought a 68 Firebird just as nice as this one but a hard top and 4-speed car, supposedly the previous owner rebuilt the motor and it never ran right so he traded in to one of those small corner car lots. My friend paid 16K and all that was wrong was one cylinder the rings didn’t seat right, fixed it and now has a beautiful fast Firebird. This one featured could reach between 10 & 13K with the automatic.

I wonder why we do not see more of these cars on the road. One of the absolute nicest examples I have ever seen of these(’69 model) was painted Hugger Orange w/ white interior and a white top. Super Sharp!!! My favorite Firebird is a triple black ’67 or ’68 triple black convertible with a Ram Air Hood.

@jeffK – I once owned the car like the one you described: a 1969 orange Firebird 400 with a white top and interior. Sold it in 1980 to a kid in Brookfield, CT and never saw it again.

Is it me or would this car look better with a white top?

Perfect canidate for a 69 Trans Am Convertible clone. No way I could afford one of the original eight 69 T/A convertibles produced……….

Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but I thought a ’69 Firebird with the Ram Air III layed down the fastest 1/4 mile of any factory muscle car.

Also, while I probably like the camaro more it seems the value between a same year firebird (not to mention comparisons to other muscle cars) always seems significantly lower. I for one have never completely understood this.

Even has the original “cocktail shakers” or vibration dampeners on each side of the trunk. Can’t tell but hopefully has the front ones, most likely it does as the car looks to be in almost original configuration.

Being a child of the seventies, I’m waiting to bring back things from my youth. I’ll wait for the Rockford Files tribute bird.

Sure looks Like one I bought and repainted in 1973 and then sold again, I Painted mine a GM color called Spring Green that I really liked and drove it around a while before selling it out in Alamogordo N.M. while stationed at Holloman AFB, I had a Paint and body shop located Down town I was in a program called Project Transition to learn a trade usable as a civilian once I got out of the service. When I sold it I then Bought a 70 model Yellow/ Black top GTO convertible which I brought Back too Texas and then sold, and the guy wrapped it around a Pole while street racing.
