Coin Operated: Kiddy Car Barn Find

We all know that some car enthusiasts need to have some decorations around the garage, especially folks with larger shop spaces. But what if you could put some of those decorations to work for you – wouldn’t that be the best of both worlds? This coin operated kiddy car looks like one of the old rides from Disney Land, and a surprisingly detailed replica of a vintage formula one car. I’m guessing it had to have resided in or around an arcade, as it looks too good to be the typical kid-trap left outside the grocery store. Find it here on Facebook Marketplace in Rio Grande, New Jersey, with a recent price drop to $999.

As a child of the 80s, it seems to me that motorsports culture infiltrated playthings like this far more than they do now. You could buy any number of kids toys in stores like KB Toys that featured details like sponsor stickers and other carefully-integrated branding elements from major auto industry suppliers, from lighting to tires. I can remember having Playmobil cars practically littered with Koni, Hella, and Esso stickers. The fact that we don’t see much of that these days just tells me that motorsports in general is fading out of the hearts and minds of kids everywhere, especially when it comes to the toy aisle. But that’s another story for another day – where do you think this coin operated ride was once parked?

I’m not sure how you price one of these, but even $1,000 seems steep. The seller is wise to provide a discount, as this is is one of those items that’s hard to justify buying for any particular reason – really, you’re just grabbing it because it seems too cool not to own. The potential to make some money is low, unless your neighbor’s nosy kids are prone to bothering you while you’re working in the shop – then, it could pay dividends. If you rode this kiddy car intended to rob parents of a few more cents after spending that week’s grocery money, we want to know where you remember seeing it.

Cool it is Ike. I would change the paint though. I don’t think this would last a weekend once my friends caught onto it being in my garage. Nice find!

Do small kids today even find such rides amusing at all…? I’m thinking they seem to have much higher expectations than just rocking back and forth?

“AWESOME RARE BARN FIND” as stated by the owner.

      Good enough for you?
I’m glad it’s here even if it didn’t say that in the ad.
