Converted to 4×4: 1972 Ford F250 390 V8

Here on eBay is a good ole farm truck, a 1972 Ford F250, bid to $3,610, reserve not met. This truck is located in Crescent, Oklahoma. The seller has owned this truck for ten years, and he bought it from a nursery owner who also used it for years. At some point, before either of these owners enjoyed the truck, it was converted from two-wheel drive to four-wheel drive. The job was not done to a professional standard but the seller says it does work. The frame is the original 2WD version. Useful accessories include a Ramsey winch behind the front bumper and a gooseneck hitch.

The engine is the venerable 390 cu. in. V8, augmented by an Edelbrock intake, an Edelbrock four-barrel carburetor, a COMP 268 cam, and Hooker headers! The seller says the truck runs well. The 390 in stock form would have put out about 200 bhp in 1972 but it was a torque-beast so hauling was a breeze. These motors run forever, drink gas like it’s going out of style (well, maybe it is), and can be juiced up with nearly endless supplies of performance parts. The transmission is a four-speed manual.

The truck’s interior is serviceable. The dash and front windshield are cracked, and the seats are covered with the ubiquitous fitted blanket. The truck has factory air conditioning which is said to need a recharge. The door seals have seen better days. On the other hand, all the lights, the heater and the wipers work – so your basic safety items are good to go. The horn and fuel gauge do not work. An extra tailgate comes along with the sale, mostly useful for the trim.

Heavy surface rust coats the underside. Unfortunately, that’s not where the rust stops. The bed is rusty in one corner, and the seller already patched the passenger-side floor and the front and rear cab supports. The truck has been repaired for usefulness, not to win ribbons. The seller shot the entire body with a semi-gloss clear coat – a subtle look that will at least forestall one or two rust molecules for a couple of weeks. There’s no indication of how much the seller wants for this truck, but if it runs well it’s certainly worth more than the current bid. If this showed up in your driveway, what would you do to it first?
