COPO Survivor: 1967 Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray

The 1967 model year would be the last for the C2 (second-generation) Corvettes that began in 1963. Convertibles would continue to dominate the scene as nearly two out of every three ‘Vettes built in ’67 would be drop-tops. This nice survivor was ordered through Central Office Production Order (COPO) and has less than 39,000 miles in unrestored condition. It’s available here on eBay through NASCAR team owner Rick Hendrick’s dealership network in Charlotte, North Carolina. The bidding stands at $64,600, the reserve is unmet, but the Buy It Now price is $76,000.

Production of the 1967 Corvettes would drop by nearly 5,000 units from the prior year. 22,940 rolled off the assembly line and 14,436 of them were convertibles like the seller’s car. This one was requested through COPO, which was created by Chevrolet so that its dealers would have a system to order/create cars that might not have otherwise been made. Although cars ordered for fleet purposes like police cars saw the most action, COPO was there for one-offs, too. From the seller’s description, we think this car went through COPO to ensure the silver/red paint/interior combination which we’re told is rare.

This Corvette came with Chevy’s 327 cubic inch V8 that produced 300 hp with a 4-barrel carburetor. It’s paired with a 2-speed Powerglide automatic transmission, and both are said to be numbers-matching. We’re not told the car’s running condition, but you must assume it does exactly what it’s supposed to do. At just over 38,000 miles, the car has spent more time stored and/or in a collection than anything else.

The condition of the Chevy is rated 3 out of 5 meaning that it’s in good, but not perfect shape. The hideaway headlight housings seem to be discolored compared to the rest of the car, and the upholstery on the driver’s side is a bit stretched from use. But none of this prevents the car from being shown as it is and for what it is.

This ’67 ‘Vette has accumulated some awards and honors. It’s a Bloomington Gold Survivor Award Winner and was selected for the Bloomington Gold Special Collection.  It has also been recognized as an NCRS Regional Top Flight Winner with a score of 94.2 out of 100. The buyer will receive documentation on all of this plus its Chevrolet Protect-O-Plate, original fuel tank sticker, reproduction window sticker, and original owner’s manual.

The Buy It Now price for this Corvette is sandwiched between what Hagerty says one of these cars is worth between Good and Excellent condition. Given its history and documentation, this sounds fair when you consider that Concours condition would fetch $102,000.

Hey Russ- This Vette has been for sale for a while. Not sure why they can’t move it.

It’s a very basic car that’s over priced

It was featured on this site May 21st of this year, the high bid was $64,700. The other two times an auction has been run, it didn’t receive any bids.

It’s a striking color combination, but that doesn’t seem translate into much interest, even at its opening bid of $64,600 let alone $76,000 BIN. It makes you wonder how a 4spd manual and a 350hp 327 (L-79) would change that equation.

Discovering this car doesn’t have a third pedal is like discovering that your new girlfriend does.

Too rich for my blood. It’s pretty good looking but out of my price range.

Auction is over, it didn’t get any bids. $64,600 was the requested starting bid. Nobody felt it was worth even that and it isn’t. Maybe $50,000 on a good day.

I doubt the transmission is killing the deal. Most grayhairs who can afford this car are just fine with a 300HP automatic.

That’s odd. It says it is a COPO, yet nowhere does it mention any documentation proving this. It is a COPO just because someone says it is? I don’t think so. Show me!!!!!!!
