Custom C-10: 1966 Chevrolet C-10 Pickup

The owner of this 1966 Chevrolet C-10 Pickup has managed to nicely capture the essence of the rat rod culture in a package that is both practical and should be enormous fun to drive. The attention to detail is very impressive, and this is a classic pickup that would undoubtedly grab plenty of attention wherever it goes. However, all good things must come to an end, with the owner now deciding that the time is right for this classic pickup to find itself a new home. It is with that thought in mind that he has listed it for sale here on eBay. The C-10 is located in Pembroke, Virginia, and has a BIN price of $16,995. The option is also available to make an offer, and with 119 people watching the listing, I suspect that someone will probably blink and do so pretty soon.

“Powered By Moonshine.” That’s an interesting concept, but probably not a practical one. Still, that sign just adds to the character of the vehicle. That weatherbeaten paint started life as Brigade Blue, and its level of wear suits the vehicle nicely. Having said that, I’ve been trying to determine whether the wear and weathering are genuine, or if it simulated. If it is the latter, then it rates as some of the best work that I have seen. Honestly, I think that it is the real deal, and it is nicely contrasted by the immaculate grille, along with the new Rocket wheels and tires. Rust doesn’t appear to be an issue, while the glass appears to be in good condition. One of the details that I like is the finish of the bed. The timber is new, but it isn’t immaculately dressed and finished. It has more of a rough-sawn look to it, which contrasts beautifully with the stainless steel strips and screws. The frame has been C-Notched to bring the whole vehicle much closer to Planet Earth. It also gives it a far more purposeful appearance.

This C-10 is not just about good looks, because it seems to have been blessed with a pretty nice drive-train as well. Occupying the engine bay is a 350ci V8, which is backed by a 700R4 transmission with a shift kit. Power finds its way from there to a 12-bolt rear end, while Eibach springs and power steering complete the package. Interestingly, the C-10 doesn’t feature power brakes, but the owner says that the braking system is very effective, with the Pickup stopping on a dime. A bit of thought has gone into the specifications of the 350. It features aluminum heads and an aluminum intake, a mild cam, a Holley 4-barrel carburetor, and headers. Cooling duties fall to an aluminum radiator and electric fans. That all should contrive to produce a fairly potent pickup, with the owner saying that it runs really well and that it actually drives like a car.

The interior of the Chevy certainly packs plenty of the “wow” factor, and it would seem that it wants for nothing. The seats and door trims have been reupholstered in a combination of tweed cloth and leather. All of the metal surfaces have been freshly painted in the original Brigade Blue, while new carpet graces the floor. The walnut wheel adds a touch of class, and the fact that it now tilts just adds to the level of comfort for the driver. The sparkling gauge cluster features a factory tach, while a modern radio occupies the original’s spot in the dash. It’s when you look at the details that you begin to realize just how nice the interior actually is. Every piece of chrome shines beautifully, while the billet shifter, along with the matching wands for the turn signals and tilt mechanism, finish it off nicely.

Custom builds are interesting because they allow an owner the opportunity to express their own individuality. The buyer of this particular C-10 is going to be purchasing a great vehicle, but it is also possible that they might choose to modify it further. This would represent an opportunity for that person to put their own mark on the vehicle, something that is difficult to achieve with a faithful restoration. I also tend to think that the BIN price looks to be very competitive, and I wouldn’t be surprised if the current owner is going to actually lose money on the deal. That’s why I suspect that it is going to sell fairly quickly.

    Looks like a nice driver!! The interior is sweet if plaid is your thing but overall comfortable on the inside and not afraid to park it somewhere on the outside!! I think the 16K plus price may be reaching a bit but not a bad looking truck!!!

    I like how the seller or builder treated the bed after notching the frame, he made it so it is still usable without the modifications impeding into hauling capability. That is one detail out of I am sure many details that are just “right”.
    If I were in the market for something like this, I would give serious consideration to this unit. Well done!

    @Adam,
    Nice write up. Very cool and well executed driver. One thing that would add that extra touch to the theme of this truck would be, if the door signs were “distressed” to blend in with the rest of the body “fade”…Continue to innovate not duplicate. Overall 👍👍

    That’s a well done piece. Nice enough to earn a good paint job after you get through playing with it.

    Patina is a current fad that too shall pass. With a nice paint job this will be one sharp truck.
    God bless America
