We used to call this a “bitsa”: major components of several different similar cars are combined to make a single auto. In this case, the title will be for a 1970 Olds Cutlass. The car is located in Perryville, Missouri and is for sale here on eBay where bidding is currently at $1,209 but hasn’t met the reserve yet. Originally, this car was wrecked in 1980 and the drivetrain was “destroyed” in the accident. Knowing how strong engine blocks are I have a tough time with that statement; I suspect the drivetrain went into something else. However, the car has been resurrected using a rust free ’69 convertible frame, a 1970 350 cubic inch V8 and a 4-speed transmission that is still missing a bellhousing. It’s been parked in a barn for 20 years according to the seller. There’s a lot to do, including some substantial rust repair and interior work, as well as some issues with the convertible top frame. I realize this is quite a project, but it might be the right one for someone out there—just not me. What about you?
Not real far from me but it can stay there, too much cobble to suit me. Why didn’t he try to finish it over all those years, even a bell housing wouldn’t have been that hard to locate for a GM product.
While I’ve always admired these cars, you’d lose me as soon as the frame was swapped.
So if it was wrecked in 1980 and it’s only been in the garage for 20 years…. Where was it for the other 15 years? That may not be too important but it seemed odd to me. I think what we have here is a great parts car. Putting it back on the road even as a nice driver would cost a pretty good pile of cash.
This should have been a NO RESERVE auction. Way too many lose ends here.
Let’s see, nothing matches, doesn’t run, major rust, many hard to find parts are broken or missing.Probably twisted, if the roof won’t latch. Why would anyone want this? Unless they are just buying it for the title.
