Deluxe! 1941 Packard Coupe

41 Packard

I love the “Deluxe” script on the hood sides and the three elegant chrome accents on each fender of this classy Packard. It’s located in Canal Winchester, Ohio and is on the market here on eBay where bidding starts at $500 with a reserve. The car appears to be relatively solid, with not much more than surface rust showing up. There is a dent at the headlight on the driver’s side, but it’s nothing that couldn’t be repaired relatively easily. The seller is correct when they state that there can’t be too many more Packards this solid left. It’s got a 6-cylinder flathead engine and a three-speed manual. A nice, classy honest car. What do you readers think it will end up selling for?

I would guess $12,000. to $15,000 would be in the range with prices today.

This deluxe Club Coupe model in current condition as stated I would guess could bring between $15k to $18k. Rare little Coupe and nice find!

The body style is wonderful -sadly the 6 cylinder will limit the serious Packard collectors who would really bid the price up – the exterior and interior need extensive attention – the drivers side floor looks like only one of many surprises to be found – the engine compartment has been neglected for a long time.
I doubt it will reach the reserve unless it is under $10K – with a lot of work and money this can be a wonderful car to own and drive but always lack prestige in the Packard world.

“Ask The Man Who Owns One” was diminished by the 110 models and it is the straight 8 or more that drives the collector market today.

I too am a Packard guy, that said, I would not invest in a 110 car. They were not the quality of the larger cars, they were even built in a different, more automated, factory than the 8 cyl cars. They were designed and marketed as the 912 Porsche…….a car for people that could not afford a real Packard…….and they will cost the same to restore as a more desireable model. This was Packard’s attempt to compete with Chevrolet.

Bought on of these from the 2nd owner in 1961 for $50.00. It was my 1st car. Mine was not the Deluxe & did not have strips on fenders. It even had a 1941 version of cruise control (you could set your speed with accelerator & pull lever on dash to hold it. Sold it a few years later for $40.00.
