Dusty 1957 Chevy Bel Air Project

This 1957 Bel Air has said to have been parked in a barn for the past 30 years. It was parked after the engine was pulled out, but the seller doesn’t state as to why the engine was removed but one can only assume it was damaged. Besides needing a new engine, it looks like there is some rust that needs to be dealt with and it’s going to need lots of cleaning. That being said, it looks like a great find. You can take a closer look at it here on eBay in Cincinnati, Ohio and has a current bid of $1,525.

Clearly this Bel Air has seen use as a hot rod. It has all the typical signs of a ’60s hot rod, including the classic three spoke wheel and add on gauge cluster.

And here’s the empty engine bay. The floor mounted transmission is still in place, so hopefully all it needs is a new engine and the usual consumables. This really could be a great find but you will want to take closer look at the underside to make sure it isn’t too rusty.

Just the other day I saw a seemingly well restored ’57 4-door heading in the opposite direction and thought ‘Someone spent way too much restoring that, but there probably aren’t any 2 Door Hardtops left out there to restore’. No matter what that person driving the 4 door started with, and how much they spent, financially he/she would have been better off starting with this.

This one has the early seventies car written all over it. I had three just like it back then. The original colors would make this one stand out at the cruise ins. It would be different than all the turquoise, orange, and black ones.

I wouldn’t mind getting that car, but it is too far away for it to be economical or practical. I have the choice of either a 350 or a big block that would be right at home in that car. I had the chance to buy a 57 Canadian Pontiac 2dr Hdtop, running and in excellent condition for 8,000, and I am still kicking my ass over the fact that one, but I had too many other projects at the time.

Ashen I started reading this post and saw a current bid of$1595 I thought to my self ” no way “! Well it’s now up to $4000, and I won’t be surprised if this hits $10 or $12k before it’s done. It is an excellent start for any kind of restoration. I’ve done to of these in the past, one as an as built, and one as a restomod so I’m not looking for another, I just hope someone gives this a good home.

I’m assuming this is rust belt car, because it is for sale in that area. But whoever buys this car, should check this out. It could be all floor pan’s, and or trunk pan’s are, good or maybe not so bad.lf this was a possible Fl.,Ga.,and or Texas it might make me feel better.Good car’s can be bought there. We’ll one thing for sure we have a 2dr.Hardtop, it looks like most all Belair trim and bumpers are org.and most of the car is there other than the motor,h’mm looks like automatic transmission installed at some point. Here’s the problem if you want a original front seat it’s missing, plus motor. H’mm 1250.00 plus ,a little high, it will probably cost more money than 1250.00 plus to find some org.parts. Although if you have a parts car ,and or sources to part’s maybe it’s not so bad.

      Reid,
Why do you say it had an auto in it at some point?

Still a beautiful car at the end of the day no matter what it looks like right now it’s the end result that counts

A real life Bel Air? $20,000 easy. People lose their minds over 57’s. I prefer a 55. But I’m a fordman.

I agree, I prefer the 56 post car myself. To me the 57 was just too over the top.

Prices are down on these though, you can buy an already restored car for a lot less than you can build one.

      That’s a V8 mount radiator support,not a 6 as you stated.

        @ Flounder,
You are correct. Didn’t the 6cyl rad fit in front of the support?
