Dusty Garage Find: 1991 Nissan 300ZX

The 300ZX was an evolution of the 240Z that took the sports car market by storm in the early 1970s. It was built across two generations between 1983-01 but only sold in the U.S. in 1984-96. The car was a darling of the automotive trade media where publications like Car and Driver placed the ZX on its “Ten Best” list for seven consecutive years. This ‘91 edition (apparently along with several other cars) was discovered when the seller was clearing out his father’s garage (estate sale?). The condition is unknown and it wears several years’ worth of dust and dirt. Located in Selden, New York, this 300ZX is available here on Facebook Marketplace for $3,500 OBO. Thanks to Dawson Hittle for reporting this one to us!

The Z-Series sold in the U.S. were known as the Fairlady Z in Japan. The 300ZX name followed the numerical convention that began with the original Z car. The addition of the “X” to the name was a carryover from the 280ZX to signify the presence of a great level of amenities that now came with the car. Later ZX’s were powered by a 3.0-liter V6 Twin Turbo which we assume is in the seller’s car. It could be had with a 5-speed or a 4-speed automatic transmission, of which the former is likely in this automobile.

What we do know about this car is that the seller’s father put on more than 88,000 miles before it came to rest with several other vehicles, also dirty and dusty now. So, we don’t know how long the car has been inactive or what it might take to get it running again. Only two photos are provided of the ZX, so this third one is borrowed from the net to give you an idea of what the black interior might look like if it has survived intact.

As with many other ads….. really?!? Two pics of a dirty car crammed into a dirt filled spot? Maybe push it out, wash it, take photos of the interior, engine, underside? But….. it is only $3500, which is only about a quarter of LI property taxes on an average house of late. This would be a $1500 car elsewhere…..unless magically….. it runs and everything works

Ad is a total scam. car is not even in the US. Found a forum post from 2019 with the exact same photos in the UK. would think barn finds would screen the ad before funneling people to a scam.

Yep. I thought the same thing, it’s a scam. First indication was the euro lights. Then, 22 weeks listed? That’s turbo car, it’d be gone in the first 22 minutes.

Great catch nickname…. It’s unreal how many frauds are out there. I didn’t even pay close attention to the Euro lights. Figured someone may have installed them at some point. Another cheapo ebay addition. Stinks that we not only have to fish through a sea of garbage to find that diamond in the rough, but we have to look out for those who are phishing us too!!! Great eye!!!!!

The Euro side markers and headlight washers are 2 other giveaways (neither offered on US models). Plus, you can tell this one is right hand drive because of how the wipers are parked.
