Elegant Survivor: 1983 Oldsmobile Toronado

This 1983 Oldsmobile Toronado is offered by its second owner as a nicely preserved survivor that is still capable of whisking down interstates at barely audible noise levels. This example shows relatively low mileage of just 74,500, and is equipped with a 350 V8 engine that can propel the big coupe to 60 in under ten seconds. No real flaws are made known by the seller, and it does seem like one of the nicest ones left. Find the Oldsmobile here on craigslist for $7,500 or best offer.

While many cars from this era were by and large considered expendable, names like the Toronado and Riviera still conjured up images of prestige in the minds of older buyers. Therefore, many were treasured like this example with nicely preserved paint to match a perfect landau roof. Chrome bumpers still look quite nice and the original hubcaps show no signs of dents or corrosion.

The seller notes that the Oldsmobile has been well preserved inside and out, and the interior seating surfaces seem to validate this claim. The description of appearing to have never been sat in seems perfectly fair, and the headliner and wood trim on the dash similarly look quite nice. It still blows your mind that these were considered luxury cars back in the day, but to a certain generation, they were the bee’s knees.

All of the original sales literature and brochures are included, further proving the dedication of the car’s two owners to preserving every last detail of this Toronado. The list of recent maintenance is more than respectable, encompassing a new power antenna, tires, brake master cylinder, A/C compressor, upper/lower ball joints, new brakes and rotors. For $7,500, is this Toronado one of the best available?

    Okay, is it a 305 or a 350 engine? Looks like the stock engine was the 307 from what I have read. Nice looking ride and reasonable fuel mileage. Priced a little high but, you always leave room for negotiating..

    Black engine color is the 307, blue engine color is the 350. This one is black.

    Really? Ah where did you get your information from Jeff, that this Toronado has a 350 V8 able to move this car from 0 to 60 in under 10 seconds? It’s a 307 which will slowly move this classy luxury machine to 60 in about 16 seconds according to original roads tests from the time….The only 350 in 83 for this car was the diesel which would bring it to 60 in about 20 seconds. Oh boy..

    Ridiculous they did not offer the 403 v8 in Old’s flagship.
    Even worse is the gen after this car. lol

    Agree Joe, at least the 403 is a direct bolt up swap. Hope to do the conversion on my ’80 xsc someday, but it’s got 47k miles and the 307 really runs nice…

    I still consider it a luxury car, and think it’s beautiful. $7500 seems like a bargain to me, just wish my wife liked these half as much as me. I had a 307 in a new Custom Cruiser wagon, and it moved that thing along fine. You won’t be going stoplight to stoplight with anybody, but that’s ok with me. True, a 403 would make this car more fun, but I like it as is.
    The only little question, or concern I have is, Kentucky plates, Ohio car… yes I know they are next door neighbors… just a thought. Tom I agree about the hubcaps, the fake wires always made noise.
