Excited Seller: 1978 Pontiac Trans Am

Even if you don’t like Trans Ams, you have to read the description on this 1978 Pontiac Trans Am. The car is located in Vidalia, Louisiana and is listed for sale here on eBay with a starting bid of $20,000 and a Buy It Now Price of $26,000. The description of the car is partly a rant and the rest would drive an English teach insane. The car claims to be a Y88 Gold Special Edition (which is described in some places in the ad as a Gold Addition).  There are two days remaining in the auction.

The Trans Am has obviously been restored. The seats have been recovered in the wrong color deluxe vinyl interior but the door panels are from the standard interior package. The hood bird decal is the wrong color and is from a 1979 Trans Am instead of 1978. The car does have air conditioning, automatic transmission, CB radio, T-tops and power windows. The seller states that the exterior was repainted 3 to 4 years ago. All in all the interior looks clean and in good condition.

The engine is claimed to be a 400 cubic inch V8 engine that is said to run and drive well. There were three engines available to buyers in 1978. The L78 400 cubic inch engine was the base V8 engine and was rated at 180 horsepower. The base engine in California was the L80 403 cubic inch V8 Oldsmobile engine that delivered 185 horsepower. The performance option for 1978 was the W72 400 cubic inch V8 engine. It was factory rated at 220 horsepower. The W72 engine was special and was equipped with a 800 cfm 4 barrel Rochester carburetor, high capacity 60 psi oil pump, special cam, baffled oil pan, special piston rings, 8:1compression heads and dual turbo mufflers.

Hot Rod Magazine tested the W72 400 4 speed equipped Trans Am at the drag strip and reported a 14.7 second quarter mile time. There are numerous mistakes and incorrect claims in the eBay ad but it is fun to read, unless you like correct punctuation! This car appears fairly nice and rides on 15×8 snowflake aluminum wheels which would indicate that the car has the optional WS6 suspension.

I’m guessing a loquacious individual whose first language is something other than English.

My brain actually hurts after reading this ad. I’m unsure if the OP had actually drove to Texas for some Coors, and drank a case before he wrote this ad, or just didn’t have any grammar skills. Everything in this ad throws up red flags, buyer beware!!

Reading the entire eBay ad is a lesson in something akin to ebonics meets Cajun who meets Asian…interesting for sure…
As far as the vehicle, maybe at a better price point but I’m not an expert on the supposed “Bandit “ cars. Good luck to the buyer!

Just out of principle, due to the mangling of “the Queen’s English”, I would never bid on this vehicle.

I was going to ask if there is any documented history for this vehicle…but I don’t know how to properly word it?

You need a hillbilly translator. (Perhaps Google translate might work?) LOL

      This might help:

Select “Redneck” from the drop-down menu. If that doesn’t get you there, try “Moron”.

The Navajo Code-Talkers of WWII would be in awe of this eBay write-up.

Maybe he (or she) wrote the ad in their native language and then had Google Translate it(?). Not sure if creole is a language option with Google. Certainly was an amusing pleasure to read-but it did give me a bit of a headache to decipher some of it.

I’m a Texan, and after many years of dealing with folks from Louisiana, I can understand completely the emotion and exhilaration that my neighbor is stating here. This is obviously a spectacular ad for a spectacular car. No problems here. The ad is written in Cajun stream of consciousness, (think James Joyce). This car was new the year I graduated high school; I rode in a ’79 model just like her for many miles and never ceased to be amazed with the performance, or looks that it got from females. I would love to have this car, but unfortunately, neither my pocketbook or storage space allows for it at this time. Bon temps rouler!

I would say that is fluent cajun, just sayin.
