EXCLUSIVE: 1935 Chevrolet Master Sedan

There’s no denying that the 1935 Chevrolet Master Sedan is a good looking vehicle, but given their age and popularity with hot rodders, you simply don’t find them in highly original condition anymore. Well, reader Jim S just happens to have an unmodified example that looks to be in solid shape. It’s going to need plenty of work, as it has been parked for an unknown number of years. That being said, it appears to be a great starting point for a custom build or as a restoration project. So, if you’d love to take this Chevy on, be sure to contact Jim via the form below.

From Jim S – This beautiful 1935 Chevrolet is in all Original condition, there have been no modifications, no one tried to wire a radio under the dash 60 years ago. It’s really a rare unique find. The wooden Body by Fisher frame appears solid, the wood beams are in good condition over the metal frame. Generally, the undercarriage seems to be free of major rust and corrosion, there are several areas of very old grease that have accumulated and are protecting the frame well. The metalwork on the body is in very good shape, the doors, hoods, and fenders look good. There are two small dents (recent) in the rear deck beside spare. There is some surface rust in several areas on the fenders and the bumpers. All the body sections appear to be original with no fillers, the joints are tight and aligned. The unique and infamous “SUICIDE DOORS” both operate pretty good for their age; the hinges are tight and doors close snuggly. There is some primer paint showing through in a couple of areas on rear fenders and door.

The condition of the engine is unknown currently. Looks like the starter and generator are of the original era. The air filter is not the correct one for the original Carter W-1 carburetor. The radiator seems solid, with no punches or smashed areas. Everything seems to be there.

The interior is in poor shape, the fabric is thin, worn and delicate. The headliner is loose, and all the color is gone from the velour door panel covers. The seats appear to be on the original floor mounts and raise forward just fine. Of course, the seat coverings are aged and torn. Window cranks and door handles are all there and original. The small knob type lock for the driver’s door is missing.

Several of the windows are cracked, de-laminated and misaligned. The wooden door interiors are there but have weather damage and appear weak. The adjustment rods are intact within the door frames. I’m certain that I have left out many important facts and details, so give me some feedback. Thanks for looking, I feel this is an excellent vehicle and will provide hours of joy for someone!

Looks beautiful, who would have thought you could find a car this old that hasn’t been cut apart? Hope it goes to someone that appreciates it and drives it.

Jerry, All Masters where knee action front ends. They give no trouble with modern day oils and seals.

Shame about those “recent” dents on either side of the spare tire carrier. What happened there? At least it is an area with few compound curves. Flat glass will be easy to replace. Don’t think I’ve seen a tudor version of one of these in decades. Refresh the mechanics, safety features including suspension and tires, full interior kit, then drive it around proudly. Nice.

What is your estimate of restoration cost? My Parents had one, dk if it is this vehicle, they were simply beautiful. IF I can buy it, no way anyone ever will cut it up, hot rod it, do anything disrespectful of one of GM’s best vehicles ever!

I’m impressed by the way the person wrote the ad. Of course there’s almost always room for improvement when writing an ad but this one actually isn’t half bad.

    Nice body.

    Interior bad.

Might have to lower price as not running.

Either resto or rod , its going to be great whichever way the new owner goes

I owned one these 35 Tudors in 1962. Bought it for $15.00. Drug it home with my mom’s new Dodge station wagon. Got it running and sold it within a week for $50.00. Those were the days.

Nice car much harder to find than a Ford from this era!! The wood rotted and the car fell apart!!! Who’s idea was it to use wood for the frame of a car anyway???

Carry over from the coachbuilding days, and carriage making, TimM. The wood framing is for the metal body to be formed around….Hope you weren’t thinking the chassis was made out of wood!

No I wasn’t but I saw a couple where the wood rotted and needed to be replaced and it was a job for a carpenter/bodyman!! Not a lot of them around and the wood was mostly uncommon sizes!!

The 35 Chevy standard had a straight front axel. They differed from the master in suspension and body style. My first car was a 35 Chevy Standard 4 door. It was a cool car mechanical brakes and all. It was dark blue, with light colored mohair interior. I really like this Master but it appears to need too much work for the asking price.
    God bless America

A good friend of mine has a 37 (?) Master Deluxe that his dad bought brand new. I helped him restore it about 20 years ago. It still shows well after all these years and is driven about 1000-1500 miles every summer. I knew absolutely nothing about vehicles this old when we started working on it. Even though I’ll probably never have one, now I know and appreciate what it takes to restore them. This one will make a nice project for someone.
