EXCLUSIVE: 1970 Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight

UPDATE 7/19/2019 – Yvonne made the road trip to where her cars are currently being stored to get us additional photos! She took about 90 photos of it so, be sure to give this Oldsmobile another look.

FROM 6/05/2019 – We just featured Yvonne B’s Cadillac Coupe DeVille and she still has a few more cars to get sold. This 1970 Oldsmobile 98 4-Door Hardtop has been moved from her late son’s garage to a storage facility and she really needs to get it moved along. If you’d like to make her an offer, set up a time to view or have any questions, please contact her via the form below!

What Makes It Special? It’s fairly original and is optioned with tilt wheel, cruise control, power brakes, power seat, windows, AC, and custom center console.

Body Condition: The body is in good condition and appears to be all original with little wear.

Mechanical Condition:  The 425 V8 is present and complete. Believed to be the original engine.

What a great looking interior! That upholstery pattern is fantastic and really makes this Olds pop! If the rest of the car is as nice as the interior appears to be, this could be worth a closer look. So, be sure to make Yvonne an offer and make it yours.

I see it has the smaller block in it and not the 455 cu in.
I believe they, ’70 Olds 98, all had a custom center console (nothing unique there).

I owned a 1970 Oldsmobile 98 Luxury Sedan that was my great grandfather’s car when he was an executive at Oldsmobile and it did NOT have the console. Of course it had the under dash factory 8-track tape player so it may have had the console delete. But I rode in two other 98’s and neither had the 8-track or the console.

This may be a typo regarding the engine. The stock engine was indeed a Rocket 455 with high compression heads and was rated at 425 hp. So it may say it’s a 425 engine but be mistaking the hp for the cid.

Oh and my car had a neat feature, the “Rim Blow Steering Wheel.” For those who aren’t familiar with this piece of genius the steering wheel had a soft section on the inner circumference of the steering wheel rim. To blow the horn all you had to do was squeeze the steering wheel rim. It was a great safety feature and with air bags todxay it could be great to protect arms and wrists. You never had to take your hand off the steering wheel to blow the horn.

I was mistaken, my 98 had the 455 with 365 hp. The 425 was the engine used at least as late as 1967. I can’t find the site right now but one site that pops up often has a lot of specs for different cars and rated the 98 at something like 9.8 mpg. Sounds about right for a 2.5 ton tank with a 3 speed slushbox (although that THM400 was nearly bulletproof) and a 455 Rocket 4 bbl.

Center console was never available on a 1970 98 because you could not order one with bucket seats only on certain 89 models. I believe they all came with center armrest.

That is one fantastic car! My dad had a ’70 Olds 98 but in aspen green and the same brocade interior but in light green and no power options at all, which I always thought was weird for a luxury car. I’m not sure what a custom console is but I’m guessing not a factory piece. Ours didn’t have anything like that. It was one relatively fast, very, very nice car. I would love to have this blue one.

Where is a pic of the whole car? Very poorly represented in the listing photographically. I owned one of these in the 80s and really loved the car, same colors, same engine combo, list it like you actually want to sell it and it might just sell.

My grandmother had one. What great memories. It was like riding in a cloud. We used to watch the gas gauge move as we drove the highways!

“We used to watch the gas gauge move as we drove the highways.”
I remember that with the one I owned too. I used to tick people off, but I got the car from my grandparents who told me that it got it’s best fuel economy at 52 mph. Let them pass, I want to make it to the next gas station!

I wonder if this is the same car,

It has the same “custom center console.”

GREAT job of finding the listing. Not certain, but I think I see an edge of one of the very ugly wheels in a photo here. According to the CFS ad, it has been for sale over a year and a half with no takers at $6500.

I wonder if it really has 38K miles?

Could be, they are an hour and a half away from each other. Maybe Yvonne took it back and is now trying to sell it here?

If the seller wants them to move, they would be better off to pick an asking price than to say “make offer”.

With a non-factory radio, large speaker grills on the sides & a far more recent Olds logo on the front, I’d say that console is newer, not factory.

I had a 72 olds 98 bought it in college with 44k miles and it had a 455 4 bbl when I got it home and looked in the trunk the spare tire was still in it’s plastic wrapper. The car was awesome and on the highway would get around 15 mpg if I remember right.

Big luxury car with four doors for the whole family to get in and head on vacation!! Lots of trunk space and nice soft interior!! However it’s really not a collectible car so drive it and enjoy!!! I see it as the family truckster!!!

1700 bucks, if you can hear it running first and if mileage can be verified.

      If not, much less

This looks like a nice cruiser, I think that I would sell those wheels to a low rider. I’m not sure what Al is thinking that this is not a big block, This should be a high compression 455 with about 375 HP
