EXCLUSIVE: 1973 Pontiac Grand Ville Convertible

Reader Jim S has been asked by his friend Kevin to help him find a new home for this Pontiac Grand Ville. Kevin purchased it new and has kept it ever since! It’s been parked in his garage since 1990 and has covered just 34k miles. Jim was able to get it running, but it’s going to need work to be a daily driver again. If you’d love to give this big drop-top a new home, you can contact Jim via the form below with any questions and he will answer them or put you in touch with Kevin. The car is located in Johnstown, Pennsylvania with a $9,500 asking price.

From Jim – This original owner 1973 Pontiac Grand Ville Convertible with 34,000 miles, 455 V8, automatic, runs and drives but needs brake work, tune-up, and some clean up to make roadworthy. It’s a very solid car. I’m Kevin’s good friend and mechanic Jim, and I am trying to help sell this vehicle for him. Kevin bought the Grand Ville Convertible brand new in 1974 and has put just over 34,000 miles on it. He drove it regularly as a Sunday cruiser until around 1990 when he parked it in the garage and has not really driven it much since. The 455 engine fired right up when we put a new battery in it and some fresh gas, although the carb will likely need to be rebuilt, and gas tank and fuel lines drained and cleaned, or replaced. The transmission shifted fine into forward and reverse, but should be flushed, brakes will need some work, looks like a bad master cylinder.

The car is in excellent original condition and has never restored, has the original white paint and white vinyl interior that will probably clean up reasonably well. The car has never seen winter except for a few weeks when it sat in the lot at a local garage while the brakes were being replaced around 2005. No rust on the undercarriage except the normal surface rust one would expect on a car of this age. The body is very straight, no dents on the body, and has one rust spot on the front of the hood from sitting at the garage.

These Grand Villes offer Cadillac or Lincoln level comfort and luxury, but in a package that’s a little different. You certainly don’t see these on the road very often these days and this one looks like it would be a good one to revive. With a good detailing and a full tune-up, it would make for a great summer cruiser! So, if you’d love to hit the street in this Pontiac, be sure to contact Jim and Kevin.

The Seven Ups (1973). A testament on how tough a Grand Ville can be.

I had a 73 just like this one, but in a Burgandy color back in 77. Loved it. Wish I never had sold it. This would be nice, but The price is a bit high for me. I paid $1800.00 for mine back in 77. Drove it from Michigan to California and Washington state and back. It was a runner and smooth ride. I added air shocks to her. Sweet, sweet car.

I have a huge soft spot in my head for these. I worked at a Pontiac store when these were new. The only thing I don’t like (and never did) is the original Pontiac Rally wheels. I just don’t think that they go with this body style. The Grandville wheel covers work just great.
    Too far and too much.

Stored in a garage? I think not. 34K miles? Maybe 134K. Rust through holes in the hood from sitting in a garage? Buyer beware…This is not passing the smell test.

It sure looks like someone painted it along the way. Shade of white is different from the wheels to the body, a bunch of trim is missing that would normally be there. I am not buying the original paint, although I don’t blame Jim for that. Kevin might not have been forthcoming to Jim about that. I agree with what someone stated earlier…a 134,000 mile car.
