I remember back in the day these were often referred to as a cheaper alternative to a Nissan 300ZX.
Another gem that I wanted in my youth, but wasn’t sold in Canada. The sharp angles and body lines really work for me… and who can resist a turbocharged engine?
On of my favorite cars from the 80’s. They were fast, handled very well, and were dependable. This car looks like a steel at $3k. Wish I was in the market!

The Mitsubishi Starion version of this car was successfully campaigned in SCCA and IMSA racing series in the 1980s. Dave Wolin Racing was the factory team and won races and took championships over several years. I can’t speak about this particular Chrysler Conquest, but if it has been cared for and checks out okay, it will be a blast to drive.
The “mechanical mouse” seatbelts kill it for me! Even though I absolutely like this car, I’d have to go for a later model, sans the belts! :-)
I owned a Mitsubishi Starion and until you brought it up I had forgotten how much the seatbelts sucked on that thing. Otherwise, it was a great car.
Moparmann, I believe you mean an earlier model as 1987 was the first year of the auto belts. You can buy an ‘86 widebody (fatty) with door mounted belts or swap them into a later model (‘87-‘89).
I have four SQs currently and you get used to the auto belts after a while. Plus, kids think they are retro-cool.
I had a Matched pair of those gave one to my daughter and drove one myself, I also had a 69 stingray and a 84 vette and a 300 z all at the same time, and believe it or not those Two Conquest both seemed to be faster than those other cars I had, and a lot cheaper to drive and just as much fun to drive.
Had an 88 conquest tsi. Black on black. Bought it at 10 years old as my 1st turbo car. Went to Top End Performance to get an upper intercooler pipe w/bov, an upgraded flowed head(stock heads had a terrbly restrictive tumble port design that chocked performance), an uprated cam, and high flow downpipe. I also made a free flowing intake and a free flow cat back exhaust. Add a manual boost controller and brought it to the track. 14.0@ 100 mph was on par with m3s at the time. Nice ride and won a few street races!
