EXCLUSIVE: Nissan PGD-21 Pickup

Barn Finds reader Sean S. has sent in one of his latest acquisitions from Japan, this time a Nissan PGD-21 pickup with just 23,000 one-owner miles. The truck was used by a plant foreman indoors at the Mizuno Factory in Japan since new and remains in immaculate condition. It is powered by a TD-23 diesel, which the seller notes is up to date on maintenance and is paired to a 5-speed column shift.

The Nissan features a one-ton suspension and a flat bed with folding sides. While Volkswagen’s Type 2 pickup tends to get all the glory for this design, the Japanese also utilized the novel setup on its heavy-duty trucks. This one, fortunately, hasn’t been put up to any grueling payloads and the bed sides still look quite nice. Check out the fender mirrors, too.

The interior looks minty fresh, with an uncracked dash board and bench seat. The floors feature a heavy-duty rubber mat that can be taken and hosed out at will. The cabins are simple affairs, but the controls are easy to use and it’s actually not all that tough to drive on the right hand side; using a column shift while doing so may take some getting used to.

The underside is quite clean with just some typical red Georgia clay kicked up on the exposed surfaces.  The history file that accompanies the truck confirms it had its oil changed every six months regardless of mileage, and that the factory that owned the Nissan had every service appointment performed at a local Nissan dealer. You won’t see yourself coming or going!

Lots of misinformation and hyperbole in this ad. That is not 1-ton suspension. It is completely stock D21 suspension. And I own 11 D21s, am a former Nissan tech and Yes, I do own a RHD D21. Nothing special about this bone stock truck except the utility bed. I’ve seen a number of column shift Japanese vehicles and this is just a base model truck that is pretty clean, but has definitely not spent it’s entire life indoors. It may have Low kms, but I’ve found that Japanese cars should have an hour meter. They idle/sit in traffic for extended periods of time and the clutches, throwout bearings and pilot bushings tend to be very worn for the milage.

Pretty sure this seller would have disclosed all of the nonsense you’re spouting. It has none of the issues you’re describing here, making it a borderline libelous post. As per being “special,” really? How many of them are running around the U.S.? Perhaps not special overseas, but certainly unique in this neck of the woods.
