Finned Beauty: 1958 Cadillac Coupe DeVille

1958 Cadillac Coupe DeVille

Few cars have fins as large or impressive as this Cadillac! Between the massive size (it’s over 18 feet long!), the distinctive pink paint and the fins, it’s no wonder these cars are so recognizable and iconic! This one is said to be original with just over 90k miles on the dial. The seller states it needs restored, but it doesn’t look that bad to me. They are clearly trying to do a quick flip, as they bought it at an estate sale in Washington. Rather than spend the money to ship it to Oklahoma, they are hoping someone will buy it online. It is currently listed here on eBay in Tacoma, Washington with a BIN of $15,325.00

I actually don’t mind when people flip cars, as long as they are honest about what they are doing and they add some value to the car, by fixing issues or even just by cleaning the car up. In the case of this one, I’m not too sure how I feel about the seller. It sounds to me like they had big plans for the car, but then found out all their profit was going to go to the transporter and the State of Oklahoma when they transfer the title. They state that if it doesn’t go quick at their asking price, they will go ahead and ship it home, but if they do the price goes up. I’ve never understood statements like this, transporting it to Oklahoma probably doesn’t add value to the car and I’ve found threats of cranking the price up doesn’t typically motivate buyers to give you their money.

Personally, I think this is a good looking Cadillac and would likely be worth the seller’s asking price, but there are a few things I would encourage them to do if they want to sell it fast and for their asking. First off, they need to do a detailed inspection of the car. They need to check the engine and make sure it is free. If it is, the little time and expense it would take to get the engine running would definitely add value to me! I’d also recommend that they take some photos of the underside and the floors. Those couple extra photos can really add a lot of value to a car! In the end, it really isn’t about changing anything on the car, it is about giving us buyers confidence in the car and its condition.

I really love the looks of this Cadillac and I hope someone snatches it up! I think with a little work, it will probably turn out to be a great car. I’ve worked on a few old Cadillacs and I can attest to the build quality, so as long as it wasn’t abused it should be a simple enough project. Let’s just hope all the trim bits are still here and in good shape, as those items can be tricky to find. I hope the seller adds more photos and information about this car, as I think it would improve their chances of finding a buyer willing to save it! So do you think it’s worth $15k or does that seem a bit steep to you?

It needs TO BE restored. It needs TO BE restored.

Or, it needs RESTORATION. It needs RESTORATION.

    NOT “It needs restored.”

    This Caddy is NLA…..gone.

Not that surprising. For someone who wants a late-’50s Caddy in decent shape this one looks good—providing the underside doesn’t hide any horror stories.

A car like this always makes me think of the Art Deco district of Miami Beach, all pastel neon and bars open until late at night. With a Coupe de Ville like this the colors would fit right in and you could cruise around all evening with the windows down and the radio on enjoying the warm night air. And the people strolling along could enjoy this special car.

If it runs and drives as good as it looks, that was a good buy

1958 was a great year for GM
    58 corvette with extra chrome
Or the Belair with the chrome on the roof
    And the Caddy
I love chrome that is well styled no so much everywhere under the hood.
    Harley Earl had style

Terrific style, but I think I’d never be comfortable with the color. Just does not appeal to me at all. Maybe in person?

Great that it had a spot for a while inside an antiques dealer. Fits right in with other vintage items. Looking at the thin/faded paint, that may just be original. That alone makes this a very rare ride. I have little doubt that will a bit of mechanical refurbishing, this car could easily keep up with today’s highway traffic. What a ride!

Very nice car great styling won’t fit in my garage that is if I could afford it. I’m also not a fan of the colour. I’d go with a black roof red body and a black and red interior. I’d restore and then preserve and drive it on nice days

Nice example, I think… Pictures of the undercarriage would be necessity! My first wife’s grandfather hoarded this year Cadillac. When he died there were nine of them on his property. Some were nearly complete. Some were in pieces. The basement was stacked full of parts. It all went to a wrecking yard who agreed to haul it all away.

Great honest car. Leave it alone and don’t restore it with the exception of a mechanical refurb.

These are the kind of cars to put away for good keeping. They are pieces of automotive art.

Lots of originality on this thing, hope the new owner lends some respect to that since there can’t be many still unrestored but looking decent like this..

The appearance of the Brake Master is sad and shows neglect. The seller obviously didn’t want a closer shot.

I went to high school in one of these ‘Coral Colored Cadillacs’ they are beautiful cars. This one does not look like the original color or paint, maybe just age, but I have seen a lot of them and none of them have this off putting paint job. Ours was a Sedan Deville, with Fleetwood interior.
