Fire Sale: 2006 AC Cobra Replica

They say that when you’re hot, you’re hot, and while this can be a good thing in certain circumstances, there are times when it’s the last thing that you want. This 2006 AC Cobra Replica has been hot for all the wrong reasons, and the seller is now looking for a new owner. You will find the vehicle listed for sale here on eBay. Located in San Diego, California, it is offered for sale with a salvage title. The owner has set a BIN price of $5,500 for the vehicle, or the option is also available to submit an offer.

This Replica has obviously been the victim of substantial fire damage, and it is debatable what could be done with the car. While the damage looks pretty bad at first glance, there are some indications that the intensity and heat of the fire may not have been as bad as it could have been. There are a few plastic and rubber components within the damaged areas of the car that have survived relatively intact, along with the wheels and tires. The owner does suggest that the car could be rebuilt with a new VIN, but I suspect that a more viable alternative may be to either use it as a parts car or to turn it into a track car.

There’s precious little of the interior left to talk about, but I do find it interesting that while virtually everything is burned away to nothing, the shifter knob has survived relatively intact. That is one of those weird phenomena that can occur in vehicle fires. If the aim of this is to use the vehicle as a parts car, then there won’t be a whole heap to salvage from here.

The car is fitted with a small-block Ford Windsor engine and 5-speed manual transmission. Whoever built the engine was interested in longevity, judging by the fact that the engine is fitted with roller rockers. The lack of a valve cover on the passenger side is a bit of a mystery, but hopefully, it has only been removed to inspect the rockers. Depending on how long ago the fire was, and what was used to extinguish the fire, the engine may be able to be salvaged. The transmission should hopefully have survived largely unscathed, so just maybe the new owner will have a decent drive-train to work with.

If I were to buy this AC Cobra Replica, I’m not completely sure what I would do with it. The frame appears to have survived the fire relatively unscathed, although it would be a pretty smart move to have it professionally inspected, as heat can do some pretty strange things to metal. The drive-train may be able to be salvaged, along with items such as the wheels and tires. Certainly, replacement body panels and parts are relatively easy to source, so it could certainly be restored. Would you go through all of the work required to restore the car, or would its fate be either as a track car or parts car?

Those tail lights are an embarrassment to the Cobra name.

Taillights appear to be from a Mini Cooper. They don’t belong on any Cobra!

After they were installed, the car took itself out

Parts…but then again, if you are starting out building a Cobra, would you really want to use a 351 Windsor? Go at least 351 Cleveland or better. Not much left to pick from. Wheels…only 2 or 3 left that are good, and it’s hard to tell if there is any damage on those. Of course you don’t buy a burnt heap and drag the whole thing home for 2 or 3 wheels.

way overpriced. Chancey. if the chassis was ok you would need to rebody, IMHO. Good luck to the new owner. Kind of a clean slate tho.

    Cheers

For $4k more you can get the kit from a noted Cobra replica company (they’re having a sale) located in Mass. You’d probably be better off than crossing your fingers on this one unless you can get it for short money.

Replica or not they never made a “AC Cobra” when Carrol Shelby built the CSX car he named it the “Shelby Cobra”. AC cars limited supplied the body to Shelby, there a no doubt some AC cars out there that have been converted to a Ford drivetrain but that does not make them a Cobra.

So whats the magic numbers?? Limits on page views or limits on “Finds” you can reply too? Or limits on how many you can bookmark for notification of new replies in comments?
Just as a test I looked at 5-6 last night just to see,, nothing popped or blew up.
What do you see when the limits kick in? A warning at 8 and BSOD at 10???

Here are some Asian alternatives to BSOD or -404-

    “Screen, mind.both are blank”
“Having been erased, The document youre seeking must be re-keyboarded”
“Chaos reigns within. Reflect, Repent,& reboot. Order shall return”
“The website you seek cannot be located, But countless more exist!”
“Program aborting: Close all that you have worked on, You ask far too much”
“Windows is crashing, I am the Blue screen of Death, No one can hear your screams!”
“Yesterday it worked, Today it is not working. Windows is like that”
“Stay the patient course, Of little worth is your ire. The network is down”
“Three things are certain: Death Taxes and lost data, Guess which has occured?”

I was wondering what was going on. I would click on my email update, to reply click here. It would not go to the comment but to the start of the article. I know some bad comments are blocked, but none that I read were anything bad. Sad to see so many heavy hitters are dropping off.
