First Year Find: 1967 Chevrolet Camaro

This first-year 1967 Chevrolet Camaro is advertised at a two-owner car that was last registered in 2005. While there may be more desirable models or engine packages, this car looks like a great weekend project. It can be found for sale here on eBay with an asking price of $9,500. Located in Holbrook, New York, it looks like it’s been a little snowy there. I bet this car doesn’t do too bad in the snow though, take a look.

As mentioned before, there are more desirable engines than the straight-six that this car has. However, wouldn’t this make a great project for a young driver? They probably wouldn’t get in as much trouble as if this car had a potent V8 instead. The ad says the car runs and drives great and has recently had a tune-up. The brakes are new along with the battery. The heat, lights, and wipers work well.

The interior looks mostly stock and the black upholstery with the red exterior is a classic combination. As you can see, the door panels are missing and the dash needs a bit of attention. The nice thing about the first-gen Camaros is there is a ton of support from the aftermarket for these cars. Sourcing some interior parts shouldn’t be too big of a task, especially in black.

Here you can see the rear quarter panel needs a bit of attention. Hopefully, any rust issues are not too wide-spread. There are some photos of underneath the car and it doesn’t look too bad for a 53-year-old car. The trunk looks solid as well, which is a big plus. I’m sure this car will find a new owner who will give it a bit of attention and bring it back to its former glory. If it was yours, would you leave the straight-six or drop in a V8?

I was looking at this early this morning, but to me the rust issues would definately leave it out of my range. I fear it’s way more comprehensive than it looks. Really like the pics of it though, with snow and all! 😊 Quite charming to find a six in there, I’d stick with it and rather upgrade to a manual tranny

I guess this is the winter equivalent of “wet it down with a hose and snap a picture quick”

The first pic makes it look as forlorn as can be.

74 I sold one like this in alot better shape. It had a 6 in it with a 3 speed on the column-might be rare. For $40. I just didn,t need it. Also sold a 66 Galaxie rag top with a bad transmission for $25. I can,nt beliebe the outrageous prices they are asking now days. Are they gold or more bigger fools?

Johnny, there are only so many desirable, original old cars out there… Supply and demand.

Excuse me–I was asking $40 for the comaro and the guy asked me if I would take $75? I told him I sure would and he paid me $75. I couldn,t believe my luck that day.

It’s obvious new money is driving the price of these cars up, whether it’s older individuals wanting to relive their youth or something else, don’t know.
One thing I noticed on this one it to my looks like the front bumper was driven in from hitting something so a good examination should be done IMO to everything relating to this one.

I would change the interior to Tan, give it what it needs, and make it a driver.

Is that a big hunk of metal/body putty hanging off the driver side quarter panel? Looks like a really bad repair coming back apart

These inline six Camaro’s were unbelievably reliable! They also handled quite well for the time and were fairly economical for the time….only 25% of 67 Camaro’s were 6 bangers.

No breakdown of RS 6 cylinders 1st gens – could be < 1% '67-8. & a lot less than that, if any, for '69.
      Later model PS pump fitted.
Bare painted red driver’s exposed inside door looks good as is!

Paul, as for the I-6 reliability I’d really like to hear opinions from those old enough to remember whether the I-6 was indeed considered a more reliable power plant than any of the V8 options in the Camaro?
Or is it as simple as the typical I-6 Camaro owner would be the careful and conscious ‘librarian’ type of driver as opposed to the gear bashing mullet driving any V8 Camaro constantly at WOT?

Much more reliable then V8 cars back in the day …across the board in Ford, GM, and Chrysler products…because of lower RPMs less stress on moving parts.
I am sure lots of high HP Mustangs, Camaro’s and Chargers amoung others were blown up from constant abuse…however inline 6 bangers are very durable by design and have good torque.

I’m sure this being a New York car that it’s had body work done at least once before!! It’s a forgone conclusion!! These cars were driven in the snow sand and salt!! Watch out for the tin worms with a unibody car like this!! It may have more mud in it than you think!!!
