This Dodge 330, sadly, isn’t a Max Wedge hiding out in a base model’s body. No, it’s your standard, Slant 6-equipped model that is basically suited for commuter duty and that’s about it. But we don’t see these squared off sedans all that often, and this one is pleasing in its base model trim. Find it here on eBay with a $1,300 Buy-It-Now and the option to make a best offer.
The seller says it’s been hiding out in a grove for many years, likely after the nose took the punch you see here. Still wearing old-school Iowa license plates, the damage doesn’t look all that bad; even the bumper remains unscathed, leaving the next owner to pull out the hood and find a new grill. Possibly, some pulling will be needed to straight the front valence out, but almost any body shop can do that.
The rest of the 330 looks quite straight, if a tad boring. The 330 was intended to slot above the Dart, with a few piddling options intended to make a slight upgrade over the smaller sedan. The lack of details in the listing is certainly not helping push a sale, as the only information offered is that the seller doesn’t hold a title. But he does offer that he’ll also have a 330 convertible sale shortly, and the included pictures show a rough drop-top.
Here’s the solitary interior photo offered – helpful, huh? Hopefully, the grove it sat in was largely a dry one, but it’s hard to tell if the rust in the bottom of the passenger fender is the solitary spot of corrosion. The price is low enough but there’s likely little upside in restoring a 330, unless you’re like this seller who apparently has a thing for them. Still – you don’t see them everyday, and obscurity alone has been known to drive people to restore cars like these.
It could make an interesting daily driver with the /6 or any engine you want to fit in it. I would fix the front end and get a cheap paint job on it and add a killer stereo, maybe air conditioning and wheels. A cheap project that you don’t have to be fussy with.
A picture of it in it’s as- found location would have been nice, just because I like that, and I guess opening a door or 2 for pictures was too much trouble!
My Dad had a White 1964 440 with the slant 6 and three on the tree that was his first new car bought when he was 40 years old after he went into inquire about a dart. It had red interior. They sold it when I was 3 in 1971. He went to the dealership when it was new and ordered two extra tail light assemblies and then cut holes in the back panel to install them so it would look like a Polara. At one point he rear ended another car that was cut off by a female driver and he spent 700 to have the damage repaired. Pretty cheap by today’s standards but expensive in the mid 1960’s.
Buff the paint, put air in the tires and spray the rims black, and this car would look 100% better.
I dont think there is any intention of the other 2 being sold or he would have bundled them. Just cleaning up keeping the better parts car is all I see
Great find. As long as the rust isn’t too much, the car is simple enough that it wouldn’t take too much investment to get her back on the road. I’d bring it up to driver quality, not a show queen. Leave the slant 6, and use it for weekend errands, tooling around town.
Jeff, do you seriously think that hood is repairable? I think the valance you refer to is part of the grill assembly, but, if not, do you think that could be repaired as well?
Needs a hood, grille, and right front fender, and maybe a little time on the frame rack (note the passenger door has crimped over the fender edge when it opens, and the driver’s fender is a little cockeyed). If someone’s up for a easy, cheap more-door fix up, hold out for the other sedan he says will be listed (provided the side and rear views are as good as the front).
People have converted these early B-bodies to the more desirable two door post version, but besides welding skill, that takes a good set of two door doors, which are getting harder to find. Maybe the Max wedge clone market will soon support a 2-dr conversion kit, and some of these six cylinder four doors will have new life.
I thought parts car until I saw it was punched in the nose…I guess parts , but for what?
