Four Door Donation: 1969 Dodge Coronet 440

c1

This 1969 Dodge Coronet looks to be a very original and un-messed-with specimen. It’s been donated to a charity and is now being sold here on eBay, with bidding below $2,000 and no reserve as I write. It’s located in Orange, California.

I remember these wheel covers when they came out–I thought they did a nice job of simulating rallye wheels at the time. Now I think this car would look a whole lot better with Mopar rallye wheels like these. You can see some minor damage right at the rear on this side, but a distinct lack of the dreaded rust! This may or may not be the original paint, but I’m pretty sure it is at least the original color. If the low mileage claim is correct, it may well be the paint the car left the factory with.

c3

This side has some dents and dings on the rear fender as well. Don’t be unduly influenced by the current California location, as the car has an Oklahoma title and is wearing plates from that state. The Coronet is said to start and run well, and has recently had a replacement heater core fitted as well as new spark plugs, ignition coil, fuel filter, front and rear brake shoes and wheel cylinders as well as greasing the wheel bearings. I’m surprised someone would do that kind of maintenance and repair work prior to donating a car!

c4

While there is a small tear in the front seat on the drivers side (visible in the large detail pictures in the auction here), as a whole the interior really looks nice, especially for a car this old. It lends credence to the 72,023 miles claimed in the auction.

c5

Under the hood, we have a 318 V8 with at least one hose new enough that the sticker is still on it and a new battery. A two-barrel carburetor should keep fuel economy relatively good for a car this size, and that all important (for those of us in the South) air conditioning compressor is in place with a belt on it, although the seller says the A/C has not been tested. While this model isn’t the most desirable Mopar for 1969, I do think this is a bargain classic that would bring a lot of enjoyment to many enthusiasts, and could be a daily driver for many folks. Let us know if one of you California readers are interested!

IMO some of the paint damage could have been caused by tarps and ropes (During storage or transportation).
The dents and scratches look like what at the garage we referred to as “Senior Dents” (Damage by elderly drivers).
This would make a great daily driver or could be easily converted to a vintage police cruiser.

I like these cars, I’d drive it. I do not remember any Coronet cop cars. Lots of Plymouths though.

I see something on the floor on the driver’s side that I have missed for years, a floor mounted dimmer switch! Anybody else miss these?

I miss them!!!! But I still own a 76 Chevy Impala with one of them. Young people will ask what it is. My Wife will always look at me, because I will tell them it is the turbo boost, or how I turn off and on the laser finder, or it is so I can speed and cop can not see me. I am really a funny guy at times!!!!!

I think that this car could be detailed with some touch up and minor repairs and enjoy it as a survivor. It’s a four door with a 318, so it will never be a muscle car. Since it looks original it will be a shame to modify it after all of these years. It has nice options and could be a nice cruiser for local shows and such.

@Jamie: I agree about the wheels, but on this car, I’d prefer the later Magnums w/ the brushed trim rings.

I agree with Charles clean it up or touch it up take it to car show, and enjoy the drive in it, they always seemed to ride nice to me. There is still a Drive-in Movie out the other side of Potosi, Missouri, in Cadet. They used to have what they call the old time movie night, it would start early in the day with a classic’s car show and everybody would get in for 50 cents, they would have old time car movies, then after dark they would show old “Beach” movies. I remember one year they showed America Graffiti I wonder if they still do it? But this car would be great for sometime like that. or heck I would use it for a daily driver.
