Fresh 390: 1971 Ford F100

Custom builds can come in all shapes and styles. Some can be pretty wild, while others can be subtle and tasteful. This 1971 Ford F100 fits into the latter category, and it offers potential buyers a lot for their money. Not only does it look fantastic, but it features a fresh V8 under the hood. With all of the hard work completed, the owner has decided to part with the pickup. Located in Las Cruces, New Mexico, you will find the F100 listed for sale here on Barn Finds Classifieds. The owner has set the sale price for this classic at $14,500.

The F100 is finished in a unique combination of bronze and white, and its presentation is excellent. The paint shines beautifully while the panels are straight. There is one small dent near the radio antenna, but this barely shows in the photos. The only other body defect to note is a small hole on the right inner fender, which the owner believes might be the result of a battery acid spill at some point. Looking closely at this Ford, you start to notice a few understated custom touches beyond the distinctive paint finish. The grille is a custom tubular item that gives the front a clean and crisp look. The rear pan has been rolled, and the owner has fitted a custom fuel tank into the bed. The bed itself looks spotlessly clean, as does the trim. The glass is free from flaws, while the pickup rolls on a set of 15″ alloy wheels that the owner has just fitted with new tires.

The pickup’s exterior is not the only aspect of the vehicle that has come in for some attention. It is powered by a 390ci V8, and the owner has recently had this rebuilt. He treated this beauty to an Offy intake, a 600cfm carburetor, and 14-bolt GT heads with larger valves and hardened seats. With the intake charge having an easier time getting into the motor, it only made sense for spent gases to escape just as easily. He, therefore, fitted FPA headers and a dual exhaust. When you add a Petronix ignition system into the equation, this is a classic pickup that should have plenty of power. Since this work was completed, the owner has managed to add a mere 2,000 miles to the Ford’s odometer. Bolted to the back of the 390 is a 3-speed Top Loader manual transmission. As is the case with the motor, the owner has also had this rebuilt. The further you delve into this one, the more that is revealed. The owner has lavished attention on both the front end and the braking system, with both areas receiving a recent refresh. Throw in new wheel bearings and a new radiator, and it seems the buyer won’t need to spend a dime on this drivetrain.

If you are waiting for bad news with the F100, the interior won’t provide it. The owner has woven his magic in there, and it needs nothing. The seat wears new upholstery, while the carpet is also fresh. The dash has a custom cluster of Dolphin gauges, and a CD layer should relieve boredom on those longer journeys. Shifting duties for the Top Loader fall to a Hurst shifter with new bushings. Rounding out the package is a thick and meaty wheel that should feel comfortable in the driver’s hands. Once again, there is nothing here that requires attention, so the buyer can slide behind the wheel and immediately enjoy the classic motoring experience.

For one reason or another, some people aren’t in a position to be able to tackle a project build. For them, buying something ready to go is their best option. That is what is on offer with this 1971 Ford F100. Its custom touches are subtle, and its overall presentation is excellent. With the scope of recent mechanical work that has been completed, it is a classic pickup that has the potential to offer its next owner years of enjoyable and reliable motoring. At the asking price, it offers potential buyers a lot for their money. That’s why I think that it deserves a closer look if you are in the market for a cool pickup.

Yes, I like this truck. Not quite ready to pull the trigger, but this is one I would definitely consider.

It is a nice truck!! The only thing I think I would do is pull the three speed and put a tremec 5 speed on the floor!! It would give two more gears to move it around and make a long haul a little more fuel friendly!!

If this had some disc brakes and a 429 or 460 it would be a great truck.
