Garage Kept: 1967 Camaro

1967 Camaro

The seller of this ’67 Camaro doesn’t offer much information in their ad here on eBay about their car. At first they state that it’s an RS, but then retract that later on in their listing and state that it’s just a base ’67. It currently has a 350 V8, which is nice to have, but isn’t original to the car. Looking at the VIN, this car left the factory with a six cylinder and not a V8. This is one of those finds that doing some research before you bid will definitely pay off, especially with bidding already to $7,500.

1967 Camaro Interior

It is a very solid car throughout, which could explain the bidding. It has bucket seats and a center console, which is a nice feature to have. The inside would benefit from a good cleaning, some new seat covers and carpets. Overall though, it looks usable as is.

1967 Camaro Engine

The 350 looks great sitting in the engine bay, but I have my reservations about swapping a 350 into a car that meant to have a 6 cylinder. It’s not that it can’t or shouldn’t be done, I just would want to make sure it was done properly and has already had the brakes, transmission, and rear end from a V8 car installed. The 250 inline 6 isn’t a lightweight by any means, but it isn’t nearly as heavy or powerful as a 350, so you will want all the right parts installed to make sure it is safe and fun to drive!

1967 Camaro Garage Find

I really wish the seller would have provided more information about this car. I don’t think they intend to be deceitful, they just left out a lot of important details. This car has great bones and whether you keep the 350 or install a correct 6 cylinder, it would be fun to have! These first year Camaros are quite desirable, so I think this one is worth saving. So would you leave the 350, making sure everything was done correctly of course, or would you find a 250 for it?

Nice find…. note the rattle can over spray on header flanges and fuel pump. It will be a good project for someone…

I’m surprised no one has asked the seller if he has changed the front springs to heavy duty V8 springs when he added the 350 or did he keep the weaker 6 cylinder springs. Heck if it doesn’t go above 9K I would say it’s a worthy project seeing as it looks to be solid with a decent V8 and I’m not a purist when it comes to my cars, I just want them looking sharp and fast that way I’m not afraid to drive them anywhere.

I like the blank slate and 350. Life is too short to fuss about numbers matching. I’d put nice GTS seats in it, update suspension, steering and brakes, and make it look like something Mark Donohue would race. Auto tranny would have to go.

Is there any reason someone would willingly use a powerglide except to go drag racing? I would check, very carefully the rear end and entire car.

      Paul,
The Powerglide trans was standard auto, unless it had a 396 with auto(TH-400) in any chebby. The TH-350 didn’t come out until ’69. Chances are the 6cyl came with the Glide.

When the seller advises you to “bid carefully”….
    warning bells are sounding.

having had someone bid, win, then flake because they “didn’t think they would win”, I see no red flags here. People need warnings, particularly on ebay.

I actually did that except I still bought the car, a very nice 92 Alfa Spider at a good price. I still don’t know what rational caused me to bid when I fully expected to be outbid. Lucky for me my wife just took it in stride and I still have the car.

I would love to use this as a donor to my 68 RS. It would be an expensive donor, but considering the poor condition of mine right now, I would still be saving money in the long run. Every time I see these first gen Camaros I think of mine and how at this point it has become a “Garage Find”.

Maybe I should take some photos and post it here and make everyone as sad as I get when I see it now.

Hey Great Start For somebody that Wants to make a NICE Driver/Cruiser. Though the power-glide Would have To go say in Favor of a TH-350 or 700R-4. I’m amazed since it’s a NEW Jersey Car About how WELL the Sheet-metal has Held UP Cause I don’t See any ROT or Signs of repairs. I have the Feeling this Car was Parked in DRY Storage in the 70’s or 80’s and Left for a VERY Long time until somebody Attempted to Build a Muscle car.

In 2002 my dumba$$ traded a 68 Camaro convertible, orig 6cyl with V8 transplant and 67 RS/SS front clip, for a 78 Vette, painted to look like a Silver Anniversary. I later had a 68 coupe, sold and made some $, these First Gen Camaros are only going to go up in value as they get scarcer for the ever growing purchasers. I have grown to like 69 Firebirds, even harder to find, but I have too many other fav projects to acquire any more.
