German Barn Find: 1957 Porsche P111

Seeing a one-owner vehicle here in the U.S. is always fun, especially when it’s a few decades old. Finding a one-owner 1957 Porsche P111 tractor from Germany is even more unusual. This Bonn Find – actually it’s from Weinstraße – can be found here on eBay in Cleveland, Georgia. The bids have reached $6,800 and there is no reserve.

The seller says that this was a one-owner Porsche tractor before they purchased it in 2018 and it’s one of around 30 Porsche tractors that they have owned and sold in the last few years. I could think of worse ways to have fun than finding, importing, and then selling Porsche tractors.

From what I understand, the P111 just barely predates the famous series of Porsche tractors, the Junior, Standard, Super, and Master tractors. This one is all original other than regular maintenance and wear items and the seller highly recommends keeping it original.

Typical of Porsche, the controls will take forever to master… I’m kidding of course. These tractors are pretty popular now with Porsche owners who feel the need to complete their collections with a diesel tractor. A lot of them are totally restored and they can easily go for 2-3 times the current bid price if not much more, especially for the later models.

It looks like a tractor under that stylish hood/engine cover! This engine should be an 822 cc single-cylinder diesel with 12 hp. A Cayenne Turbo it ain’t, but it’s also a lot cooler and would turn heads unlike any SUV would. I would love to have one. Are there any tractor fans out there?

Bonn Find!!! Best line I’ve seen this week. Nicely penned, Scotty. Turnip the Volume! Most classic Porsches oversteer but I’m guessing this one plows. OK I’m done. Thanks for kicking off our weekend with this tasty field find!

I did a tour of German car museums back in April. The VW Ziethaus Museum in Wolfsburg has an awesome display of Porsche Tractors from the Junior up to the Master. They’re beautiful museums and you can still find people using them on small farms today.

“Ruin it by restoring it” the seller says,,IDK, vintage tractors should be restored, otherwise it looks like some schmoe farmer that never took care of their equipment, and I’ve known plenty farmers like that. I never thought air cooled diesels had the steam of liquid cooled ones, at least the air cooled ones I operated. They are a lot simpler, however. Be a fun little hobby tractor, but at $7g’s, they’re nuts. Not that nice, and clearly trying to bank on the name.

So the big rear-end wings and whale-tails aren’t as new as I thought.

About as attractive as their SUV’s and Panamera. Which aren’t.

As they say about beauty being in the eye of the beholder, I think the exact opposite of that, as do several million other people.

The seller is a dealer on B.A.T. – always listing these things, a group of bidders also in Georgia magically bid the price up but never manage to win the auction. Must be nice to have friends always being your under-bidders. What’s that word? Rhymes with hill?

Sold for a cool 11K. My retired dentist, now gentleman farmer, would have possibly bid on this as he now has a tractor collection. But, I believe his lovely wife has put an end to his mechanical acquisitions. He does have a lovely “Roundy” 2002 in Sahara Tan named “Erwin”….wait for it….”the desert fox, Rommel”. The late, great Niki Lauda injured himself on one of these not too terribly long ago by turning it over on himself. So even ex-F1 drivers can even err on a tractor…..
