Going Cheap? No Reserve 1976 Triumph TR6

At the moment, this 1976 Triumph Tr6 is going very cheaply via an auction with very little information and listed at no reserve. The TR6 is said to have last run three years ago, which is practically yesterday in car guy terms. The body appears nice if just a little sun-faded, and the Triumph retains its original wheels and safety bumpers. Thanks to Barn Finds readers Chuck F. and 55chevy for the eBay discovery, and find it here on eBay with one bid to $2,500 and less than a day left in the auction.

The Triumph sports a period luggage rack on the trunk, which I’ve always felt looks perfect (and not tacky) on a vintage British roadster. The bumpers front and rear have ungainly overriders on them, all in the name of safety. The body doesn’t appear to present any issues going down the sides, but underneath is where bigger potential concerns may reside.

The interior is tired, with the type of weathering that’s typical of cars left outdoors in the sun or driven around regularly with the top down (or both). The door panels and seats look OK, with the latter needing a seam or two repaired on the driver’s seat. The dash is likely a lost cause, and that includes both the dash pad and the fascia.

The seller claims this TR6 is up for grabs following its acquisition at an estate sale. Mileage – if accurate – is low, at under 60,000 miles. The trunk provides some evidence that a previous owner was tinkering with a tune-up, as plug wires are usually followed by cap and rotor as cheap fixes to sort out poor running. Regardless, this TR6 could be a steal at no reserve.

The real issue on these is the chassis frame where the rear trailing arms attach. Very rust-prone. Proper repairs require removing the body, and at that point, you might as well refresh everything. Still, might be a worthwhile project if the price stays reasonable.

This has ended. I’m sad. This would have looked good in my driveway.
