Retired from Government duty, this 1978 Dodge pickup is a charming looker that is ready to drive. In original condition featuring a 318 V8 and a 4 on the floor, this truck seems like a great classic work horse and cruiser. Originally from Arizona, this pickup is solid with only surface rust to show. It seems that classic truck prices fluctuate, but this Dodge seems like a sweet deal for someone at $4,695. With little aging in the cab, this interior is ready to be enjoyed as is. A modern cd player has been installed in the dash, and there are some aftermarket speakers mounted in the bottoms of the doors. Overall the interior is in nice shape, with a crack on the glove box door, and some wrinkles on the seat upholstery. Both door panels are very nice, and the carpet doesn’t look too shabby either. As you can see there is a floor mounted 4 speed shifter and there is a third pedal as well. The 318 is a fun enough and economical engine, but this truck also features power steering and power disk brakes, really making it a grand day to day driver.
The weathered appearance has a neat look, and thankfully this truck appears to be rock solid with no evidence of rot. There are a few dents and dings, the biggest being on the fenders. The rear bumper has been removed, but again this truck has a rather neat hot rod appearance. The seller has lowered the truck the “right way” and a nice condition set of Mopar rally wheels have been added to round out the looks of this classic pick up. I’m not a Mopar guy, but that truck would make a pretty neat little parts chaser. The only thing that could be a drag, is the 4 speed. Back then, most 4 speed pick-ups, even half tons, had a “creeper” first gear.
A non synchro creeper first gear, would take some of the fun out of having a 4 speed.
I’m a sucker for patina and poverty caps. The long bed stepside doesnt bother me as much as the Fords and Chevys of the era do – this one looks less goofy to me.
I’ve never been a fan of LWB stepsides, but this one has my attention. Maybe it’s because I’m old and I know the dependability of the old dodges. I like!
I like most old trucks and doesn’t matter the manufacture but I will step out on a limb and say I think this Dodge stepside long bed with “Patina” is homely as hell. JMHO take it or leave it.
Just me BUT there is no right way to lower Any thing nor jack it up for that matter! I LOVE STOCK

The first picture, front facing left, enlarge the picture, you can see the front has the holes, rears must be the 8″ version. I always knew them as the cop car wheels.
Compare this 78 to the 78 Chevy a few posts up on this site. It’s a wonder Dodge sold any trucks in this era. They were 10 years behind on styling.
I’d have to agree on the styling, these dodges were mutts. I think what sold them was their reputation for durability and reliability. I’m not a fan of rustina so if it were mine a repaint would be in order and I’d get that suspension back up to a stocke height. One thing about that bull low gear is it is very handy when loaded down and have to pull up and out of a tight spot, the rest of the time you wouldn’t even use it.
I kinda feel the opposite on the styling of the Chevy v Dodge. I once thought the Chevy was the style leader in those times. However, the years have been kinder to the Mopar design. The Chevy’s look kind of square and generic, whereas these Dodges bear a kinship styling resemblance to some of Ma Mopar’s finer muscle offerings.
I’m not a big Dodge fan, but I wouldn’t mind owning this truck. I like oddball vehicles and this one would be a fun parts chaser. Count me in!
