Healthy Big-Block: 1967 Chevrolet Corvette

Make no mistake about it. This 1967 Corvette is going to need some work to return it to its best. It may well be worth the effort because under that battered and bruised body hides a solid car with a pile of potential. Located in Wylie, Texas, you will find the Corvette listed for sale here on eBay. The owner has set a BIN price of $38,500 for the Corvette. If that seems to be a little steep, then the option is also available to make an offer.

Apparently, this Corvette has had something of a life of competition, and it now shows a fair amount of wear and tear. There is plenty of repair work required to bring the fiberglass back to its best. Below the surface though, the Corvette does appear to be quite solid. The owner provides plenty of photos of every part of the car, and there is some of the usual surface corrosion that you would expect from a dry-climate car, but it does appear to be free of any rust issues.

This isn’t a numbers-matching car, but what you get is still a pretty nice combination, nonetheless. The owner seemed to be unsure of exactly what sort of big-block is lurking under the hood, but a quick check of the casting number on the block reveals it to be 454ci of 1978-1990 vintage, although I’m not sure if it is a 2-bolt or 4-bolt block. This is backed by a 4-speed manual transmission. The car has been in storage for an extended period, and there will probably be plenty of work to do before it is in a roadworthy state. One thing is for certain, and that’s the fact that the engine runs, and that it sounds nice and healthy. The owner provides this YouTube video to confirm this fact.

The interior of the Corvette is complete and generally isn’t in bad condition. There are no rips or tears in the upholstery, while the dash and pad also look to be quite good. There are hints of the car’s autocross past when you look around the interior, as there is a fire extinguisher fitted, along with a rear roll-cage. Remove those and fit some fresh carpet, and no-one would ever know the difference.

I’m not going to shy away from the fact that it is going to take some work to return this Corvette to its best. Getting the body and paint back to a high standard is not going to be a cheap proposition, but the end result would be quite a potent car. Is this one that you would be willing to take on?

If this were closer I’d really consider it. This is exactly what I want. I don’t care about matching numbers and I’m happy to save money by not having them, and I don’t want something that’s so nice that I’d have to worry every time I took it out. This one looks perfect to me.

It sure looks like it was beat to death!!! But a car like this is definitely worth owning!! The bin price seems a little high to me considering the condition of the body!! There’s a lot of hours to get this baby straight again!! The stinger hood still looks ok!!

i WONDER WHAT IT LEFT ST.LOUIS AS, DASHBOARD SHOWS AS AN A/C EQUIPPED CAR BUT NO CLEAR PICTURES UNDERHOOD OF THE AREA THAT WOULD CONFIRM THAT. THE BODY NEEDS BUNCHES OF WORK, HERE, THERE, EVERYWHERE BUT NOT INSURMOUNTABLE, SIX TAILLIGHTS MAKES IT A WINNER IN MY BOOK BUT THE CHEESY WOOD GRAIN RADIO AND HEATER KNOBS DO NOT. TOO EXPENSIVE FOR WHAT IT IS, TOO MANY QUESTIONS. ANY BIG BLOCK CHEVY SOUNDS GOOD WITH OPEN HEADERS. COULD BE VERY NICE WITH ENOUGH MASSAGING.

Looking at this car for what it is, you’d be upside down within 20K, it was a nothing car to begin with that was beat to death and other than it being a factory big block, with no matching numbers and probably needing chassis repair, keeps it at under 50K in restored value.

Hm interesting- good pics and description and she sure is a ruffian. Smog era BB. Been rode hard and put away wet. Possibly if you were really interested you could get for less. Like Brian, Timm and Mferrell said, a lot of desirability here, do some body work and really piss off the Snotty Corvette purists!!! Good luck to the new owner!

    Cheers

This looks like a fun car to drive and watch the heads turn! I’m not a ‘vette guy, but this looks like a ton of work for the dollars being asked.

So…basically, this is a beat up 67 Corvette with a truck engine. Since I’m a square body guy with a few projects setting around, I’d offer.$500 for the engine, if it runs. I’d even let the seller keep the tins, intake, carb etc. I’d only be interested in the long block.
