High Roller: 1975 Dodge W100 4×4

This 1975 Dodge W100 4×4 is a high roller but not as in a big, jangling, loose-on-the-wrist Rolex watch and a gold pinkie ring-wearing gambler. This truck needs an engine so it’s a roller and being a 4WD it’s a bit higher. Just so you don’t get the idea that it has any ties to Las Vegas, this one is located in Thornton, California, just south of Sacramento. The seller has it posted here on craigslist and they’re asking $4,500. Thanks to rex m for sending in this tip!

I’m going to try to get through this one without being too harsh on the seller, the one who only gave us one, lone, solitary, lonesome, alone-in-the-wilderness, all-by-itself photo of the exterior. One. There is just one exterior photo, did I mention that? The Seven Wonders of the World have to be updated to include online vehicle ads that only include one exterior photo, because, you know, they’re selling a vehicle that people see from the photos, and when there’s only one, well…

But, the good thing is that there are three interior photos and it looks pretty good inside, overall. And in all fairness, in that one exterior photo, this truck does appear to be in good condition, body-wise, at least on the passenger side. The W100 is Dodge’s 1/2-ton 4×4 and their D-series was a 2WD pickup. The seller mentions that other than a few scratches and dings and dents, it’s all original outside. Hagerty is at $7,800 for a #4 fair condition truck so there’s three-grand to work with as far as getting an engine in this thing. They’re at $17,900 for a good condition truck so this could be a very nice project.

The seller mentions that this is a one-owner vehicle which is amazing to hear these days. I don’t have any vehicles that I’ve owned that long other than a late-60s Yamaha YL-1 100 Twin Jet motorcycle and a Schwinn Varsity 10-speed bike. That’s it, nothing gas-powered at all, at least that I can think of offhand. Between 1975 and 1980, Dodge made their Power Wagon 4×4 pickups full-time 4WD which I had in my Ramcharger. It was a beast but it got beastly mpg at literally six mpg. Six, even with just a 318 V8, not a 360.

There is no engine photo which 98% of you may have guessed by now, but this one had, or has, at least partially, a 360 cubic-inch V8 with a two-barrel carb as seen in the description above, and it would have had 175 horsepower. The seller says that the transmission has been freshly rebuilt and they still have the 360 V8 short block but it has cracked heads so the next owner will have to either try to get it put back together or go with another engine. Overall, this looks like a really nice truck despite the slim pickins photos. How would you power this truck?

Use it for the Cars for Clunkers program when you buy a new Kia. You are at least guaranteed 3 grand that way.

Had 6 of these, all power wagons that came with plows, Sno-commanders, w150-w200-w250. Great trucks, could not kill them, but the salt here did. All 8 foot beds. Sad not many around, at least in Connecticut

Same here Connecticut Mark, had four of them, all W200 with 8 ft Fisher plows. The plows probably came in at 600lbs, the trucks never even dipped in the front when I raised the plows. The trucks were indestructible
me mechanically but they all succumbed to the salt demons too. Loved them and would love to have another. Have a 2001 Ram 1500 4×4 now

Be good to recon the 360, fire it up and watch the no personality Kias get out the way like rats leaving a sinking boat.

We had a 77 with a 400 and a mechanics box on it .Loaded with tools normally , in winter we carried a 6 cyl hobart welder in it to thaw pipes . Only thing that squatted were the tires…But would go about anywhere !

Asking price seems reasonable for its condition but too far away for me to consider. Find a cheap complete 318 to drop in it and go have fun!

Yeah, not a bad deal. Too far away, or I would consider this. I even have a 360 or 340s to stick in this.

440! My 77 Ramcharger is just finishing a long engine replacement process in the middle of these crazy times of parts being harder to get. But with a Holley Sniper fuel injection kit, aftermarket air conditioning, and a strong clean vehicle to put it in, it’s going to be awesome! And this looks equally promising.
