Hollywood Royalty: 1930 Rolls-Royce Phantom

You’ll find no barn dust on this beauty! The detailed eBay listing accounts for its every owner beginning with Hollywood royalty, and it’s definitely worth a read. Supremely dignified and awaiting its first bid, this Rolls-Royce Phantom could be your chance to share history with movie glitterati including Marilyn Monroe.

Under the hood lies this steampunk time machine, otherwise known as a 468 cid inline six cylinder masterpiece providing (according to RR) “adequate” power.

Perhaps more fascinating than this Phantom’s pedigree, much of the car remains original. Restored bits blend with original parts. Though Phantom II production began in 1929, Rolls Royce produced the Phantom I through 1931 in the U.S. Factory in Springfield, Massachusetts. (Some details from Wikipedia.)

This depression-era Phantom II could easily pass for a 1920 showboat; Rolls Royce maintained an air of stately elegance recalling the happier days before Black Tuesday. If you simply must own this car you’re in luck; one click on the “Buy It Now” button and, for $115,000, it’s yours! What do you think of the price and the “only as needed” restoration?

Absolutely love the look of it! I’d love to have that one to put in a few car shows.

This Rolls was somebody’s baby. Horse power was always said to be “adequate”, but that huge six must make a lot of hp.

Super torkey engine. I drive the same car to car shows for my friend who owns it, once in 3rd gear you can stay there, coast almost to a dead stop and pick up again. Went to Pebble Beach in 2009…. did not win.

You forgot to mention left hand drive! Maybe if I post one of my kidneys on Craigslist I can get the cash up in time to buy this icon!

The Gnome Mobile is actually in the Gilmore Collection in Hickory Corners, MI, I visited the collection in June, and I can highly recommend everyone who subscribes to this site go see that place, it’s wonderful. They also have the over sized mock-up of the 1930 Rolls-Royce interior used in the movie, created so they could put real people inside and they would look tiny. I’m attaching a photo of the mock-up, note the full size red fire engine at the lower right of the picture!

They filmed a lot of that movie near here (Eureka,CA),
        in the Redwoods.

If they had completed the restoration, it would be worth the asking price. As is – no. The left hand drive is rare and adds to its value. It’s a beautiful machine nonetheless.

Not a bad car all in all, the engine compartment looks tidy enough and quite original, save for the unsightly fuel filter, the coils and the horns, along with the tail pipe that should be a flat one.
The interior is what will cost the most in restoration…..
    Outside look nice and correct.

I once had a 1938 Rolls-Royce. When I sold it I advertised it thusly: “One of the most rare pre–war Rolls-Royce automobiles you will ever see! And why is it so rare?? Because it’s the only one known for which absolutely no claims of prior Royal or celebrity use or ownership have ever been made!

Looks a bit rough inside for that sky high asking price.

I just saw a couple of Rolls that stayed overnight
here in town,on their way to Pebble Beach.
I was told that this one was once owned by the
    Shah of Iran.
