Hot Rod Potential? 1957 Chevrolet Sedan

1957 Chevrolet 210 Sedan

It might not be a Bel Air, but this 1957 Chevrolet sedan has potential. There is a Buy-It-Now price of $10,000 but currently, the bid price is at $7,957 with the reserve not yet met. How close is the reserve to the BIN? One can only wonder. This 210 Sedan is located in Cascade, Virginia and the seller has included the VIN and the mileage is claimed to be 56,721. The seller also notes a clear title. Thank you, local_sheriff, for the tip. You can find it here on eBay.

There are very few things mentioned about the mechanical components of the car. Listed is a straight 6 cylinder engine and an automatic transmission. Thankfully the seller provides a photo or two of the engine, so one knows that it is in the car and comes with it. They do not note if it runs or drives, but it wouldn’t be surprising if this straight-six runs. You never know though. You will want to contact the seller to ask them some important questions.

The seller claims that the car has been repainted once, but everything else is original. That means the interior has held up well in the last 62 years. The dashboard looks complete, clean and the seats seem great, except for a tear on the driver side where the stuffing is falling out. The weatherstripping also looks like it is fraying quite a bit. It is noted that the car will need new floor braces and rockers.

It is not noted when the repaint was done, but the car does look good by what can be seen in the provided photos. While these cars are not extremely rare, it would surely stand out on today’s roads as a daily driver, especially for the price and condition it is in. There is also a lot of potential here, either as a restoration project, ratty driver or to build a great hot rod. Hopefully, the floor braces and rockers are not that far gone that it could be enjoyed while worked on. What are your thoughts on this Chevy?

Looks like a 150 not a 210, and the ad calls it a 150 too.

The 150 makes for a nice bare bones drag car look if you’re so inclined.

And I see a 3rd pedal peeking out from under the steering wheel.

For the love of all that is holy, leave this nice 150 alone. The hot rodders have ruined enough of them and as a result they are extremely rare. This one is worth a heck of a lot more historically in its original configuration.

l agree completely. There are enough ’57 hot rodded Chevys out there. Wouldn’t it be nice and way more interesting to have a completely restored “everyman’s Chevrolet” to show and enjoy?

Fix the rockers and braces, drop in a 327/4 spd and have some fun!

I’m with Jerry z…327 4 speed- doesn’t get any better than that in a bare bones car. I like the way it looks in the turquoise!! Good luck to the new owner!!

Triple ditto on the 327, 4 speed. Just add a 3.55 posh and vintage air. Repaint the same colors. Just a great street cad.

How many of us old guys had a buddy with one of these in high school? Splotches of primer, no back seat, 4 speed or V-gate poking up through the floor, big meats on the back and the glorious rumble of the 327.

I know you can by cars off the floor with much more power but they sure don’t feel faster.

I was that buddy… I had two. A silver 210 2 dr. w/327 3 speed on the floor and a 150 2 dr. that was several colors due to different doors, hood, trunk lid and some primer spots. It had a 327 4 speed.
Later, I was able to get a black Belair 2 Dr. Ht. Fortunately, it was all one color and had a built 327 4 speed and Cragar SS wheels. The Tri-Five Chevys are some of my favorite cars.

Oh. So you’re the guy I hated. As a new driver from the 70’s I missed out on a few Tri fives and several Camaros because mom didn’t want junk in her driveway. Poopy head.

I too, noticed it was a stick from the beginning. First with the position of the shift, then the clutch. Anyone notice the dual master cylinder?

Perfect car for a W motor, either a 348 with deuces or an 09 with quads. Great old time hot rod.
