Incomplete Project: 1968 Pontiac GTO

There’s a lot that isn’t there with this GTO, but there’s some pretty neat stuff that is (like the nose above, if it’s an original one). Thanks to Barn Finds reader Olaf E. for this cool find! It’s advertised here on craigslist for $3,500 and is located in Houston, Texas.

The GTO looks like it’s been in this shelter for a while. I wish we knew more details about the car, but the seller is a classic craigslist person of few words. They do say they have PHS documentation–if you’re not familiar with it, that’s similar to the Marti Report you can get for Ford products that provides production details as the car was originally built.

I’m not exactly sure what happened back here, but it wasn’t good. It looks like someone tried to “fix” things.

There’s a lot missing here. However, what I can see of the floor looks pretty darn solid. Who knows, let’s be optimistic and think that’s a new exhaust system on the right. Of course, there’s nothing to hook it to. What’s that? You wanted an engine? Oh well, this isn’t your car. So begin the calls for late model drive train transplants. You won’t have to worry about having a transmission in the way as well, because it isn’t there either.

Ah, but there are some treasures in the trunk. I’m not sure if there are enough treasures here plus the car to justify the $3,500, but since this is on craigslist, we all know that’s probably the start of negotiations. What do you think is a fair price for this GTO, and would you restore it to original specifications with replica/original parts, or would you restomod it into something more modern? This is one case where I’d want it back original, but I’m not sure that this is the car to start with. Am I wrong? Maybe you want to buy it at that price? Discuss, Barn Finds readers!

I like the look of it with no grill, looks like it is sucking up all the air! Maybe just add some chicken wire..

If you have the resources $$$ and a dented up one that runs and shifts well for parts along with the knowledge it’s worth saving otherwise forget it.

Without a better description and more pictures, it’s hard to tell what you have but it seems far better than what you typically see at this price.

My judgment may be clouded by the color, which is my favorite for a GTO in this body style.

Verdoro green. I have just about every part to make it a driver – not restoration or show quality. Body looks great – the visible quarters tell me it wasn’t a Northeast car – a bit of rot on the front passenger radiator support, most likely caused by battery….it was probably bumped in the rear at some point.

Needs new dash pad (car had AC) and I don’t see the Hurst Dual Gate shifter included with the parts in the trunk.

There are at least 3 Pontiacs in the background of the photos – this car might have been used for parts. As long as the VIN is clean, I’d consider scooping it up.

No title…add that to the list of negatives. If you had a complete but rusty donor, maybe… otherwise, you’d lose your shirt on this one. As stated above, judging by the other goats in the background, this one looks to have been used as a donor.

Just about everthing made from GM in 68-69 was that shade of green. I had a 69 GTO convertible in that color, and a 68 El Camino in that same shade. Never really cared for the color, but the cars were both nice.

There were other colors . Mine was silver. As for this one, unless you can source at least a date coded engine & transmission cheaply this is a loser as far as restoration goes.

I know this car and the guy that is selling it and have been to his house more than once and he has a lot of GTO parts that could put this car back together so if someone were to ask Mark how much for this car along with the parts to put it mostly together I think it could be a good deal. He has other GTOs as well some not for sale.
