Kansas Farm Truck: 1939 GMC

1939 GMC Pickup

I love the look of this truck! Stored for 10 years after being purchased from barn storage, this solid truck has only surface rust and looks like it’s ready to go (even though it’s not). It’s currently in Sheldonville, Massachusetts and is offered for auction here on eBay with bids currently at $1,000 but the reserve is not yet met. The last plate with the truck dates from 1959, so this one may have been in storage for more than 50 years! As simple as trucks of this vintage are, I’d be surprised if it would take a whole lot to get it running, especially if the engine is free. This would be not only a cool vehicle but a useful one too!

that did not take long. the seller knew that all the glass is safety glass and that it is a selling point. i hope the truck is back on the road soon. great find

Nice looking truck – I’d keep it just the way it is. Maybe get some original-looking wheels for the front. Don’t doubt that it would run, but why not get a 6 volt battery and prove it?! The guy says he has another ’39 truck (why he’s selling this one) – presumably it’s in better condition and runs. If original it would have a 6 volt to jump this one with. And what is that coil of new-looking green wire at the dash in one of the interior shots?

This is is a good restoration candidate; it wouldn’t take a lot to bring it right back into its original glory. That is, to have a driver, not a trailer queen. For some reason there seems to be more ’40 models, both GMC and Chevrolet than ’39. They look the same but the ’40 models have the park lights on the fenders. Nice looking trucks either way but I still prefer the ’37-’38 if I had a choice.
