Long Time Hot Rod: 1931 Ford Model A

Hot rodding is an American tradition that has been around since the 1930s and is still going strong today! Most of the hot rods we see on the road today are recent builds that either start out with a fiberglass body or a rusty shell that somehow managed to survive without being chopped. Unlike those cars, this Sport Coupe is a bit of a period build, as it’s previous owner started customizing it in the late 1950s and kept working on it right up until it was parked in 1983. As a result, it’s a mixture of ’50s, ’60s and ’70s hot rod styling. It’s back on the road now and is ready to cruise and show off! You can find it here on eBay in Santee, California with a current bid of $12,100.

The styling mix is really interesting, but most of the older builds that are still on the road have seen updates to reflect what was popular at the time. The rear fenders were bobbed in the ’50s, the engine and transmission are from the ’60s and the underside features the kind of chrome work that became popular in the ’70s. It really has a little bit of everything, but it looks sweet and would be a fun machine to hit the street in!

There is no doubt of its heritage, it has all the things, that you would see from the late 50’s to the mid seventies. The stance, with mag wheels and tires sticking out of the fenders, coil overs- chromed rear end, and bobbed fenders. The good news the car is not destroyed by any of these modifications, and could be turned into a very respectable car, by today’s standards. I am sure someone will want to preserve this old look, all I can say is don’t bother, its going to be a while before it comes back. If the car ends up being bought in the 15K range, with some fun tweaks, and the fact it is a sport coupe, it would be a great buy!

With 4 days to go, the bidding is above $13,000. Nostalgia is going to fetch long green for this one.

This one should go a lot higher before it sells. A bit different with the automatic and rear but with something like this, leave it alone. Touch what needs to be touched and leave the rest alone. Only thing I’d do is insure the front bumper is on and get something on the rear, otherwise just drive it.

Agreed! This one’s genuine and as real as the day is long. Do what you need to do to make run, turn and stop and have fun with it.

Love the Skull shift knob with the helmet. I think I would make sure all mechanicals / brakes / wiring were in top shape and then drive it as is.

A very nice car. I really prefer the older interior and set up of the older of the steering, dash and shifter.
