Looks Aren’t Everything: 1969 Ford Torino GT

1969 Ford Torino

After offering the Torino for sale here on the site, I had a few nibbles, but no takers. So, it’s off to the auctions! I have a feeling that the car’s outward appearance is what’s holding it back. Even those who profess to be barn find connoisseurs might overlook this one because of its scruffy paint. A well trained eye will notice how straight the body is though. Anyway, the car is now listed here on eBay with bidding starting at $1 and a reasonable reserve set. Guess we will find it what it’s worth. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

You might consider doing a quick edit on your auction listing. In the yellow box you use the word extensive. I believe you meant to say expensive.

The car looks to be a decent starting point for someone looking to get in the game for not a lot of money. Even with the plus of having a good straight rust free body this car will not bring big money. The negatives here start with the coupe body style, most buyers want the more popular fastback body, or a convertible. While it is an M code car it is still a small block, bigger money buyers are looking for a big block. Then it is an automatic on the column. Even if it had the floor shift with bucket seats and a console would be a help. Please understand, I am not trying to cut your car down. I am just pointing out things that will keep the price down. And I am a dyed in the wool Ford guy, I only own blue oval products. I once owned a 1969 Torino Cobra formal roof with the R code ram air and a 4 speed. I should have kept that one. At least I know the car is still around in great condition and in the hands of another Ford guy.

Thanks for catching my typo. I’m fully aware that this car is not as valuable as a big block fastback. It is a car that a normal guy on a budget can afford though. Unfortunately, the same can’t be said for the kind of cars you described anymore.

Why don’t you guys ever keep anything?! You speak so highly of every vehicle you purchase and then you sell it off like you never even smiled at it.

I’m still young and there are a lot of cars out there to experience. It’s sort of like dating. You want to try a lot out before getting married and settling down! I leave every car better than I found them and I learn a lot along the way. It provides us with more stories and I’m better able to form an educated opinion about different cars instead of just rehashing what other people have written. If money were no object though, I’d keep every single one of them!

Completely understand the “dating” thing. I had owned well over 100 cars by age 20. Now I’m 58 and seeing these cars on BF brings back a lot of nice memories. Like the one of my ’68 Torino, which looks white in this “Polaroid Swinger” photo but is actually a yellow creme color.

I think it would make a great daily driver, I just don’t have the money.

over $2200 with almost 6 days to go. this will be fun to watch play out. is it time to start a used car dealership? retro building with retro vehicles and you can write off your costs against the business.

That would be a lot of fun actually Jim. Doubt we would make much, but it might be worth trying. I am getting tired of making so many trips to the dmv…

yes run on dealer tags, the cost of insurance would be worth looking into also.
