Looks Promising: 1962 Chevrolet Impala Sport Coupe

The owner of this 1962 Impala says that he believes that the car is fitted with every option apart for the SS badges. Certainly, with air conditioning, power windows, and power locks ticked off the list, it was well equipped in its day. It now needs a full restoration, but the owner is snowed under with projects, so has decided to sell the Impala. You will find it listed for sale here on eBay. It is located in Oxford, Mississippi, and comes with a clear title. At the time of writing, bidding has reached $2,125.

We’ve got four pictures to work with on the Impala, and not a lot of information. The owner doesn’t give us a lot of information on the state of the frame or floors, but the lower extremities of the body (rockers, quarter panels, etc.) look surprisingly solid. One expense that the new owner faces is for glass. It looks like all of the side glass is missing, except for the quarter windows. The rear window is broken, and the windshield is cracked across its full width.

As with the exterior of the car, the interior is going to require a complete restoration. Along with the A/C,  power windows and power locks, the car originally came with a red interior with bucket seats. Combined with the original Tuxedo Black paintwork, this must have been a really nice looking car in its day. The car also came fitted with a 327ci V8 and Powerglide transmission. It appears that this combination may still be fitted to the car, but there’s no word on the state of either unit.

When it was new, this Impala would have been a desirable car. It could be again, but it will need a complete restoration. The floors and frame are both unknown quantities, but with the car sitting out in the elements with so much glass missing, it would be a fair assumption that the floors will either need to be repaired or replaced. The lack of visible rust is a really encouraging sign, and while he doesn’t mention it, this car doesn’t appear to have a reserve on it. If it sells for a relatively low price, this could be a viable project. Especially considering that you can’t buy a nice example for under $25,000 at present.

Nice that it has unusual options, but it might be too far gone.

Look for donor 62 if you are going to bid on this one. I wouldn’t pay over $3,500 and that would be after personal inspection.

Ten or fifteen yrs ago in this shape a $500 car. But as the world turns the frenzy seems to get worse.

We don’t know how bad mechanically the car is in. After market on Chevys is pretty good and that’s a plus.

The key is don’t pay too much for it because Upside Down will be your middle name.

Needs so much, and this is not a 409. And there maybe rust we don’t see.

I was i the 7th grade my friend Chris, his father drove a red 1962 409. I just drooled over I every time he dropped the kid off at school.

Every option except the most important, a 409.

Oxford is deep in the heart of Dixie…the home of Eugene O’Neill.and humidity. Amazes me how someone let this car deteriorate for thirty forty years and now expects someone to pay for their negligence. Crazy baby. All the goodies are rotted. Too bad.

Profile picture: damage on the left rear quarter, right at wheel well and sail panel? Is that rust on the driver lower door? How about that right fron fender pushed back into the pas. door. Has this been hit in the Left rear and Right front? This might be a donor car for one in better condition

    This is a parts car.

    Bidding is unrealistic.
