Low Mileage And Rare: 1974.5 Jensen Interceptor

1974 Jensen Interceptor

If it is not already popular, it is certainly on its way. This recently painted Vintage White, 1974 Jensen Interceptor is a 2 owner, 34,553 original mile, Encino, California native car that currently has a $20,000 bid price. A VIN is listed and the title is clear. The listing notes that the car left the factory in England, on December of 1974. Taking details from the convertible and was peak design of Jensen. You can view more here on eBay.

The 8 cylinder engine is an entirely rebuilt, numbers matching, 440 cubic inch Chrysler with a Hemi Racing Cam upgrade. It is road worthy and the listing notes that it is a “ready to enjoy.” A new battery has been installed and recent maintenance has been performed. The engine bay looks a little crowded but is very clean. The seller also notes that the car has the original GKN wheels that have been restored.

Other amazing features include all the original glass, proper badging, and finely crafted metals still lustrous in their natural stainless steel or chrome finish. The sellers seem to know their Jensens well. At the end of the listing, they provide a phone number to contact if you have any questions and an email if you are interested in selling a Jensen you already have. It is nice to see that someone has a specialty for these cars.

I grew up in Tecumseh, Ok, population then, about 3500. Somehow, a charcoal grey Jensen ended up there. As a kid, I pretty much new every current car, and it’s model year. But, I’d sure never seen, or heard of one of those!

If your serious about buying a Grand Tourer? Then it just doesn’t get any better than this. By far this Interceptor has to be the cleanest, nicest car I’ve ever seen. Everything is right about this car. Panel gaps, paint finish, powertrain, this is definitely the upper class driver of the year, so far. Just awesome. Great job on the freshen up.

This is the way to buy one of these, I think. Buy the best you can find, from a seller with experience and knowledge of this unique car, enjoy it right away, and avoid the inevitable financial disasters of taking on a basket case Jensen. Cool, Classy car. Always liked them. Seen a few come through here as rough, neglected examples, and thought they were just too far gone. This one is beautiful.

I’d agree with the caveat being that a solid chassis with everything else perished is the other valid option. I’ve seen a couple of stylishly executed restomods on Interceptors and they’re impressive as well.

Ridiculously low price for what you are getting compared to some of the junk that appears on BF at far higher prices. I had one pass through my hands on a consignment basis and thought the owner was wanting a very high price for it, How wrong was I? It sold within two days and I didn’t even have time to advertise it. A guy just walked into the showroom, saw it and bought it there and then. I had to deliver it for him and then realised what a beautiful car it was. He then drove me back to my office and then I realised that it really was a performance car as well.

Love me some Interceptors For starters, one of the greatest names in automotive history,up there with “Marauder” but a much better car.I have a 71 coupe, and a 75 Convertible.I daily a late model Bentley GT,and my Interceptors are like the same car 40 years earlier, and a little rougher around the edges. As others have said, buy the best you can afford,as this ain’t like restoring a Mustang. The Bid is now at $26k and about half way there IMNSHO.

    I don’t understand why a 34000mile car needs its 440 rebuilt…

    Edwin did ask….

    I don’t understand why a 34000mile car needs its 440 rebuilt…

Just a guess. It’s 45 years since this car rolled off the production line, and it’s only racked up 34,000 miles, or an average of around 750 miles a year. This would seem to indicate it spent considerable time in storage, which if not properly done could lead to a seized engine, or other problems. Then, when the owner decided to get the car back on the road he/she figured that a full rebuild would “make up” for the poor storage treatment the car got. But as I said, just a guess.
