Luxury Car Or Taxi: 1939 Packard Six Touring Sedan

The Packard Six, renamed the 110 the next year, was a mid-level model, above the “120” and below models such as the “Packard Twelve”. While not as luxurious as other models, they were a really well-built car. This Packard Six is listed on craigslist in Eagan, Minnesota for $11,750. It appears to be an older restoration in very original condition. While there is still work to be done, it appears to be a nice driver. The Packard 110 was produced for three years after the war and many were used as Taxis. Many of us remember the 110 and similar Packard models not as luxury cars but as Taxis, especially from old movies.

The dash is complete and original. There is no word on what bits might be working or what problems are needing attention.

The upholstery and carpet appear to be in nice condition, although perhaps not in the original style.

This old Packard looks pretty nice from back here as well. Although pictures of the engine and underside would better show what condition this car is really in, it does look nice from what we can see. It’s easy to imagine what a nice old driver this would be. The price may seem high to some but is actually much lower than the selling price of similar Packards. Unless the seller is hiding lots of problems, this looks to be a really nice, reasonably priced old Packard almost ready to cruise in style.

The 110 is below the 120. For 1939:
    110 6 cylinder
    120 small 8 cylinder (288)
    Super 8 (320)
    Twelve (473 CI)

You are right that the 110 is below the 120; not right when you say 1939: 110 6 cylinder. In ’39, the correct nomenclature is ‘Six’, NOT 110. The later cars, ’40 + were correctly referred to as 110’s. I made the same mistake when I bought my ’39, calling it a ‘110’ and quickly got corrected by the ‘pros’ on the Packard site.

That appears to be a very specific local reference. :-D

And the car looks really nice for the money.

That’s a nice old car. If I wasn’t 2 projects deep at the moment I’d be all over this. Seems overpriced but that’s from the lack of information. If it’s in as good a shape as it appears that’s a reasonable price for this kind of driver.

Not a bad car for the money. I wish they had done the interior correctly instead of the standard upholstery shop redo.

Agree that it would have been better had they used broadcloth. Not sure what the difference in price would have been.

On the plus side the column shift give more room up front, the interior is good enough and not too good. I love to let kids climb in these and bounce in the seats. The six is not as smooth or as powerful as the eight, but, it is very smooth, the front is shorter so it would fit in my garage better, these are relatively light 3,500lbs, so the six moves them along very nicely.

Do like the color combo. If I were in a different situation I would be giving the man a call.
