Bidding seems light at the moment for this 1966 Dodge Charger, an original 383 v8/four-barrel California car. The seller notes the car has been sitting for decades but that it retains its numbers-matching engine and 727 automatic transmission. No attempt has been made to start it, so don’t rule out an engine rebuild (or swap) if you’re the lucky next owner. Find the Charger here on eBay with bidding just over $1,800 and no reserve.
The seller notes that despite the unknown mechanical condition, the Charger shows no rust of any significance on the body or underneath. The floors are solid, and just one small area of rust is noted in the spare tire well. All four original hubcaps are still affixed, which gives this Charger a decidedly “sleepy” look. All glass is accounted for as well.
The interior has been partially removed, but included. The seller notes the seats were yanked out with plans to begin the restoration, but those obviously never materialized. Anyway, the seats will need new upholstery and foam, so it’s not the end of the world they’ve already been removed. Carpets look quite decent, as does the dash and the door panels.
The 383 is non-op, as stated, but given it is the numbers-matching unit, I’d sure be inclined to trying to get it started. I can understand the seller’s reluctance to tackling the engine diagnosis, as I resorted to just pulling the locked-up motor in my junkyard find Isuzu Trooper project. Hopefully, the original can be rebuilt if it proves to be DOA.

I have really tried to like these cars over the years looking at them with squinting eyes….they are just too ugly of a body style for me, kinda look like they are meant to be a four door….I can certainly appreciate someone that likes this body style over the later years….I just can’t understand why?
Nice feature guy’s. Especially being a “no reserve” auction. So many reader complaints about rusty Mopars. This submission may be a decent barometer on prices (?)
Buying a car in California with no title could be a recipe for disaster. Any potential buyer should check with the DMV before purchasing.

Somethings wrong someplace, a MOPAR, not a rust bucket, a decent price so far, a somewhat desirable car, and no litany of negative comments ????
I’m so happy to see that these first generation Chargers are still not bringing big money.
It gives me hope that I will still be able to afford one when the time is right for me to do so.
