This 1965 Ford Mustang is unusual for a few reasons, it’s a Mexican-market car and it has an electric sunroof! It’s also a GT model and the seller claims you won’t likely find many others like it because the sunroof wasn’t an option in the US. I haven’t found proof that sunroof cars were even made in ’65, so if this is legit, this may be a great discovery. Check out the Mustang here on eBay with an opening bid of $3K and no bids yet.
There’s the number plate proving it was built for Mexico. I’m not sure if that adds value, but it is novel. Now, if only we had some proof that it came from the factory with the sunroof installed. There are rumors that Ford sent a few off to be converted, but other than that I can’t find any literature documenting the option.
These are purely subjective questions. Personally, I love the idea of owning a Mustang that is far more unique than the thousands of other 1965 models still on the road. This GT comes with a red interior in very nice condition and classic OEM three-spoke steering wheel. The seller says the engine is seized and the numbers on the block aren’t visible.
The missing block numbers are normal for Mexican-market cars, notes the seller. The electric sliding sunroof still works and I imagine it will be a thrill for the next owner to show other Mustang owners how his car not only has a hole in the roof but one that doesn’t need a crank to open. The auction ends soon, and there is a reserve that’s unmet. How high will it go?

Lieniedude, I don’t know much about these Mustangs because back in the ’80s, people came to mexico bought them all and sold them in the US.
There are a lot of ’65 Mustangs here now, but very few Mexican Mustangs.
As far as the sunroof, look at the switch. That is usually an indicator if it is from Ford or aftermarket.
The Thunderbird fender mounted turn signal lights are interesting as well.

It is odd what people do to cars over the years. I wonder how many years the car has been in Canada and where it was before that.
The car has been gone from mexico since the ’70s, according to that sticker in the window. It never had a newer plate than that on it.
When you get a new set of plates for a car, they give you a sticker to put on the window like the one shown that is exactly the same as the plate. Some people drive cars with 7 or 8 of those stickers on the car like they don’t know razor blades exist.
Need more pics, Eh.it is a Rustang. I do believe its an aftermarket steering wheel. The Mexican heritage is novel. Might be ok for 3 large, but need more info. I’d look at the sunroof as a liability, from a parts and maint standpoint. No one likes a leaky hole in the roof. Good luck to the new owner!

The car was from the capital. They have upholstery shops there too.
The engine picture looks kinda weird. The contrast of the colors looks like a deep sea submersible took the picture 20,000 feet below sea level.

If you look at the spot on the hood where the hood scoop was you can see it had one of the ’67 hood scoops with the turn signal indicators on the back of it. Not available until 1967.
The Thunderbird style turn signals on the fender tops don’t belong either.
There should have been a serial number plate on the dash at the base of the windshield on the PASSENGER side that isn’t in the photos.
Ford never made a car with an electric sunroof until the Taurus in the 80’s. It was all done aftermarket but through Ford as a “factory option”
Also, what in the world is that thing on the passenger side of the console? And what is that box in the trunk?
And, last but not least, the Cougar style triple tail lights were NEVER put on a Mustang no matter what country it was built in.
Jim, nobody said the multiple tail lights were from the factory, they were not.
Also the fender mounted turn signal lights were probably installed over the last 55 years, although I think all cars should have them.
As far as the VIN is concerned, no the Mexican cars never had the VIN plate near the windshield. The sticker you see in the ad is correct for Mexico as well as the VIN is correct for Mexico.
The VIN still shows it is an 07 car.
As an example, here is a picture of where the VIN should be on my 1974 Mexican Dart. Do you see where the rivets would be if it had an American VIN? My car only has a plate under the hood and a sticker on the door from the government like the Mustang does. Also my VIN is one letter and 6 numbers.
The Mexican cars did not follow the American standard in either numbering or placement of the VIN.
Have to disagree with you on the sunroofs, Jim. I don’t know about this Mustang, but you could absolutely get electric sunroofs in Fords and Mercurys in the 1970s. LTD, Marquis, Cougar and others.
Kevin, some people only have experience with ’80s cars. It is sad but true.
Yeah a family member had a ’68 white Cougar Xr7, with an electric sunroof. It was bought new. The black vinyl top, also covered the sunroof. I was 8 years old. Thought it was the coolest thing I had ever seen.
Though sunroofs were factory-cataloged options in the late 1960s, cars ordered with sunroofs were shipped to an ASC facility for installation. So Jim is technically correct, at least as far as late ’60s sunroof cars go.
I thought those hood scoops weren’t available on a Mustang until ’69…
1969 would be correct.
I’m thinking the box in the trunk is a sequencer for the multiple taillights.nothing you couldn’t fix providing the rest of the car is decent. Some better and more pics would be nice. That sunroof is troubling. Good luck to the new owner!!!

No I do not and the last sticker on the car is 1980-81 Which I believe was the last time it was plated iin Mexico the Lady who owned it was a snowbird She drove the car back from Mexico Iand never registered the car in Canada. I was able to acquire a Canadian title and I have the car registered in my name in Quebec
