1968 Coronet 500

According to the owner is this a numbers matching car with a 318 V8, an automatic, a 8 3/4 rear-end and that is straight and as complete of a project Coronet that he has ever seen. Listed here on craigslist in St. Louis, Missouri, this 1968 Dodge Coronet 500 has an asking price of $7,500.

Chris, the owner, says this car needs a full restoration. There is no mention of the condition of the engine. It would be nice to know if it spins or is frozen, a few questions maybe in order for Chris.

There’s no question about it, the seats need some attention. The rest of the interior needs work, but isn’t awful. We would still recommend taking a closer look at it to make sure there isn’t any rodent damage.

According to Chris, there is some rust the lower rear quarters, the frame rails need some repair and also the floor pan on the driver’s side needs work. There are not images of these areas provided with the ad.

The owner says that the dash is in “very fair shape” and it really doesn’t look too bad. It will need a good cleaning, but the lack of visible cracks is a nice sight.

We think that a buyer really should see images of the areas of rust and the frame rails before moving forward with this project. Of course, that’s up to you.  Please contact Chris the owner with you questions or requests for more images. So would you tackle this Coronet project?

    the seller seems to be up front about the condition of the car, but as you stated, it would help to see the problem areas , He states the dash is in ” very fair” condition, from what I can see, it doesn’t look bad . This might be a car to keep as close to stock as possible, but, also see ” cloning” it ( I hate that term) I am wondering if he is referring to the whole interior as to being in fair shape, which I would agree with . with it being a “500” it is very close to being an R/T so a Bee R/T may not be out of the question good luck to whomever gets it

    I mentioned this before, but my dad bought a new’68 coronet 500 conv. with a 383 magnum, with the drag pack. I still remember him burying the speedo back when the speed limit was 80 I think, maybe 70, the car was new. I have loved this car ever since.

      PS, I think the price is a little high for non running 318 car, I think calling this one a muscle car is a little bit of a stretch.

    This old Mopar looks like an easy restoration project. The rust is minor. The big expense looks to be getting the engine running and the interior redone. The price would still need to be right.

    In the 60’s, Chrysler built some of the baddest muscle cars ever produced.
    Just look at the stance this car has from the grill, hood scoops to the tail lights. And most usually had an engine to back up the bad attitude looks.
    I absolutely love them and I am a die hard GM fan!

    This car is a better candidate for a restoration than the 66 GTO earlier featured. I myself being a modifier would do what needs to be done to the body / interior and trans / rearend / brakes / suspension then swap out the 318 for a more stout 383 or 440 and drive the wheels off it. I would only offer 5K with a take it or leave it attitude.

    These are easy cars to work on so anyone with basic mechanical knowledge and a good service manual should be able to fix the machanicals. The body looks pretty good and I would guess that a driver quality paint job could be had for under $5K. The interior is pretty rough the previous owner must have had a lot of gas to roach out the seat like that. for me I’d buy reproduction seat coverings and foam and do the work myself. If you could get the car for $5K and spent another $7k $8K you would have a pretty nice car. I think when a guy puts his own sweat and skinned knuckles into something like this car pride in ownership goes way up.

    This one is ok… it will sell for close to what the seller is looking for.. Not a bad project, but be prepared to shell out some clams for this one..

    I cannot remember Ma Mopar offering hood scoops or quarter panel trim on a 318 equipt car. Being very familiar with B bodies, if the frame rails are rusted, one had better pay close attention to the torsion bar crossmember as well as the bottom of the doors. The doors interchange with Plymouth B bodies however, many other parts are exclusive to Dodge and difficult to find. Look this over good and know what you are getting into before taking the plunge.

      Not just the hood scoops, my 68 Coronet 500 had small turn signal indicators on the top of the front fenders which this one does not.

    This mopar is on Facebook,now they are asking 6,000 with no motor or trans. And seller is different person and saying it was a BB car.

      Jim the scoops are from a 69 model but the chrome trim on the rear quarter panels is the correct trim for a 68 coronet 500.

      My dad used to own this car. He had it before I was born until he sold it 10 years ago or so. We put that 318 in out of a 68 coronet 440 4 door my grandfather had. The original 383 is in my grandfathers garage still.
