Mostly Undone: 1969 Pontiac GTO

left rear

For the right price, this GTO listed on craigslist in Kinston, North Carolina, might be an enticing project, but $11,500 seems a bit pricey for this car. Documentation includes a copy of the window sticker, and the dealer’s order sheet. It’s a numbers matching A/C car with a 400 cu. in. 350 horsepower engine and a three speed manual transmission. The seller says this is a low mileage car and that it drove like new before he started restoration.

The engine is said to have recently rebuilt… but wasn’t it running like new when the restoration started?

The seller says the body work is 90% complete. You can’t see many details in the pictures but there is likely much more work to be done. The quality of the work is unknown. Do you think this could be a viable project if the work isn’t too bad? If the parts are all there, what do you think it might be worth? Is there any hope for this sad Goat?

If everything he states is true with a personal inspection $11,500 is not a bad price for a A/C GTO. He states the engine was rebuilt BEFORE he started driving it and it ran like new.

In NC, it’s worth less than half of it’s listed price. I live here and cars always seem to be waaaay overpriced. Just saying…
