Motorized Picnic Table for the Family on the Go!

Still in the barn, this amazing custom creation promises to please! Featuring room for twelve, disc brake (singular), and a fully boxed steel frame, this motorized picnic table in Lucerne, Indiana seeks a new owner looking for a turn-key answer to the modern family’s perpetually recurring question:  “Where should we eat tonight?” If you need a creative solution to accommodate your family on the go, cast a bid here on eBay where at least ten lots have set the market value above the plateau of $350.

Scarred by bad experiences with other ill-mannered motorized picnic tables? Forget the embarrassment of mistakenly putting your dinner party into a patch of petunias while piloting a less reliable dining vehicle. The motor and “everything” works properly, so prospective buyers should bid with confidence, knowing this finely crafted machine will corner, accelerate, and stop at his or her command.

As with many customs, this vehicle’s owner may well have invested more than the creation can bring at auction, but such is the curse of the craft. The artist creates and moves on! The tires show good tread. Kudos to the seller for showing pictures of the mechanical details. Would you restore it to perfection or respect the honest patina of its weathered finishes?

The convertible top appears to be functional, offering some passengers protection from sun, rain, and errant bad-mitten birdies. The undersized right front tire suggests a later addition, a possible countermeasure to an imperfect alignment favoring turns to the left. A fully basketed floor keeps dropped deviled eggs from impacting the soil. Simply brush off the rust and serve with pride. How would you put this unique vehicle to use?

Now I’m sure I’ve seen it all! (Shake your
head here) What I don’t seem to see is
how you would steer it left or right.
However you do it, it would be a great parade vehicle or just something to shake
up other drivers or the boys in blue as you
motor blissfully down to the market to pick up your picnic supplies for a nice day
at the park. While you’re at it, weld a hitch to the rear so that you can tow your
grill behind for that ultimate king of the
grill experience! Thanks Todd for this
    most unusual find.

Pretty cool, I agree with Ken. It needs to turn. I would not want to be the person sitting at the corners. This build is not complete without cup holders. I am afraid to see there other items for sale. Best of luck to seller and buyer. Another nice write up Todd.

If you look very closely you’ll see it has a tiller type handle to steer and maybe a motorcycle twist grip for accel/decel; it’s just in front of what appears to be a nonfunctional disc brake at the rear…
Imagine going to the local drive in restaurant and driving up with your own table!
      Clever welding shop project.
The tree huggers would use a solar umbrella and electric motor.

Good eye Nevadahalfrack – I agree with the motorcycle-style cable hypothesis. I believe the disc brake is similar to that used on lawn tractors, where that rod simply cams against the disc to stop the tractor / table. Thanks!

The Knoxvegas Lowballers, a team we race against in the 24 Hours of LeMons, runs around paddocks in their upscale version of this table, complete with sound system and cooler…

      Thank you, leiniedude and Todd.

Having now seen this photo, Jamie, henceforth I will have an entirely different visual when I hear “Now that the tables are turned”…

      Ingenious on both builds!

This could be modified to run on abandoned railroad tracks. Just affix small track wheels and adjust width to fit . Could putt along for miles! Or, bring to Burning Man festival in Nevada. Would fit right in.

Before this heads out for a drive, it needs all the welds re-done [take a close look at the welds] I don’t think any of the welds shown had a decent penetration to provide strength. Hit a bump hard, & it can collapse.

I’ll clean this up a little and call them bird poop welds. First day of welding classes you don’t do these anymore………….

Maybe paint them to depict actual bird poop, in keeping with the picnic theme? Add fake vomit from Spencer Gifts? I agree with Bill M, with too much movement and flex the welds as they are could collapse along with all the passengers and picnic goodies.

Looks like there’s butt space for 6-8 and foot space for 2-4 with the wheels, engine and chain underneath. The sad-sack umbrella and indoor photos don’t exactly sell it.

Bunch of Canadians run around on a table like this at the Street Machine Nationals in St Paul. Not fast, but they’re always laughing their asses off…

Pretty much the same concept as the pedal tavern, which are everywhere around the city of Nashville. With the exception of NO presumed drunks on board not pulling their share, or a requisite chaperone/driver.
