Nicolas Cage’s 1992 Chevrolet Corvette ZR-1?

The 1,000,000th Corvette rolled off the line during the 1992 model year. While this example is not the millionth ‘Vette, it was 1 of only 502 coupes with the ZR-1 packaged to be produced that year. And, the seller has documentation to back up his claim that it was once owned by Nicolas Cage, which should make this a special car for the next owner! It is currently listed for sale in Waterford, Michigan and can be found here on eBay with a current bid of $16,200.

This 1992 Corvette ZR-1 is a C4, the fourth generation of Corvettes. When the C4 debuted for the 1984 model year, it was a massive improvement over the C3. It had new modern styling, a digital dashboard, and impressive handling. Over the next few years, power ratings increased and in 1990 the ZR-1 option was added. It was a hand-assembled aluminum V8 that was developed by Lotus. Delivering 375 horsepower, it offered impressive performance for a relatively low price compared to the other supercars it was designed to compete against.

Wearing its original Black Rose metallic paint, this ZR-1 has covered just over 50,000 miles and still appears to be in overall excellent cosmetic and mechanical condition. The seller mentions a couple minor rock chips and one small paint bubble, but other than that there is not much to report. Fiberglass bodies (a Corvette tradition) have certainly helped keep corrosion to a minimum. The seller is including 2 sets of wheels in the sale – most photos include the newer aftermarket ones which are currently installed, but I like the original ones shown in one of the photos taken a few years back. Which set would you install if you owned this ZR-1?

The interior is also in pretty good shape for the year and mileage, but the side bolster on the driver’s seat is really what lets it down. I don’t know how much it would cost to recover the seat, but it looks too far gone to do a patch and still have it look good. Other than that, the carpet is a bit dirty, but hopefully, a detailing would take care of that. You’ll also notice an aftermarket head unit installed. Fortunately, the original factory unit is still present and no alterations were done to the wiring or dash itself, so it wouldn’t be hard to return everything to the original look. This is not necessarily a rare car, but it’s unique enough to stand out in a crowd and can be enjoyed as-is. With a connection to a movie star, and appreciable performance and handling, this ZR-1 is ready to be driven – will you be the next owner?

48 1992 ZR-1 Corvettes were painted Black Rose. It might be rare if everything checks out.

Why would anybody care if Nicholas Cage owned the car?

You want to have as much information as you can so you know what to avoid.

Well Miguel & Michael, you both may not care that Mr. Cage may have once owned this car. I also don’t care.

But there are people out there who would care. Are you going to fault them for their opinion? Does it mean they are wrong?

No 370 and you aren’t going to fault me for my opinion.

The ONLY thing appealing to me about this car is the fact that it was owned by Nicholas Cage. But I’m also the president of the Nicholas Cage Fan Club. So there’s that…

I agree that there are people that would love to own it for it’s once owned and possible celebrity status. This reminds me of George on Seinfeld buying a car owned by Jon Voight. There are those that brag on owning a car that Elvis owned…….on paper he bought for someone else.

Because of that this car is destined to be a trailer queen as it will always be someones investment. Can’t take it to the track etc.

My opinion is Nick ruined his personal status at buying dumb things and at one time was one of the poorest actors taking on about any job. So his spending habits are a joke many have made. If he was an astute famous car collector (think Reggie Jackson) that actually knew would be a wow factor.

On another side of the coin. If it was so great why didn’t he keep it?

Why didn’t we keep all the great cars we have owned in the past that are now worth tons of money? Because we move on to the next cool thing, same as everybody selling on Mecum, Hemmings, Ebay, or anywhere else.

At the end of the day it is a 50,000 mile ZR-1. Which also means it might be a $25,000 ZR-1. I mentioned above that the color is rare, and it was rare for a reason- Not too many folks liked it and it was quickly dropped.

Ugly is in the eye of the beholder. Nice ZR1 and at a decent price. Could be a nice daily driver at that price.

I had a 95 ZR1 in Deep Purple Metallic. I also played alot of Deep Purple CDs in it. Finding an open stretch of highway, dialing up the speedo to 110 and setting the cruise, testing the limits of my Bose/Rockford Fosgate setup with My Woman from Tokyo.

Brian, great choice of music. Surely you must have also worked “Highway Star” into the mix.

I second Highway Star as one of the best songs to cruise to at high speed.

I bought a 1990 Porsche 944 S2 cabriolet, the seller told me it was owned by the sound man for Nickleback, and he even played music on some songs. I guess a lot of people don’t like Nickleback, but I liked some of their songs, I even Wanna Be a Rock Star. I think when I sell it I won’t mention the link though.
