35k Mile Survivor: 1967 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible

Occasionally a classic car will appear, and it becomes difficult to define its most important feature. That is the case with this 1967 Corvette Convertible. It is an original and unmolested survivor. The Corvette still wears the paint that Chevrolet applied at the factory, and it is also fully numbers-matching. During its life, it has accumulated a mere 35,000 genuine miles. It also comes with a good collection of original documentation. For anyone in the market for a classic Corvette, the fact that it is being offered for sale here on eBay with No Reserve is probably the icing on the cake. The Convertible is located in Gadsden, Alabama, and the 42 bids to date have pushed the price along to $45,100.

The Corvette is finished in Goodwood Green, and the car’s third owner claims that this is original. He purchased the vehicle 34-years-ago, and it looks like it has been pampered for its whole life. The paint isn’t perfect, because it does have a few minor marks. However, the buyer will hold their head high if they intend to retain the vehicle as a survivor. Any defects are relatively insignificant and are hard to spot in the supplied photos. The whole car holds a beautiful depth of shine, and there are no apparent issues with the fiberglass. The beauty is more than skin deep with this car because the underside photos look equally as impressive as the exterior. The Black convertible top is original, and this has survived in excellent condition. The trim and chrome present well for a survivor-grade classic, while the wheels look close to perfect.

For the final year of C2 Corvette production, buyers faced a wide selection of engines to slot under the hood of their shiny new toy. In this case, we find the entry-level 327ci V8, pumping out 300hp. A 4-speed manual transmission backs this, and even though this was the base engine for 1967, the Corvette was no slouch. It should be capable of dispatching the ¼ mile in 14.7 seconds before winding its way to 131mph. This Corvette is a numbers-matching classic, and while the engine bay isn’t perfect, it still presents well for a car of this age. The owner claims that the vehicle has a genuine 35,000 miles on its odometer, and judging by the collection of documentation that he holds, I suspect that he can probably verify this. Included in the sale are the Owner’s Manual, Protect-O-Plate, the original Sales Contract, and copies of the Title dating back to the original owner. This is all well and good, but I can hear you asking how healthy the Corvette is. The answer is that it is in excellent health. The owner states that it runs and drives perfectly, so it seems to be a case of the buyer sliding behind the wheel and hitting the road for a spot of motoring pleasure.

The originality of the Corvette continues when we open the doors and take a look inside. It is upholstered in Green vinyl, and there isn’t much not to like here. There is some slight compression of the outer edge of the driver’s seat, but there is no appreciable wear. It is relatively typical for Corvette’s of this age to display some fading of the carpet, and this one is no exception. It isn’t horrendous, and unless a buyer seeks perfection, I would be inclined to live with it. The plastic is in good order, while the dash is spotless. The interior isn’t overflowing with optional extras, but the original owner did choose to hand over the additional $172.75 to have the car fitted with an AM/FM radio.

It is always interesting to poke around into the background of some classic cars to find some facts and figures. In 1967, Chevrolet sold 22,940 examples of the Corvette in both Coupe and Convertible forms. Of those, 4,293 buyers, or 18.7%, chose to have their new toy finished in Goodwood Green. That makes this the most popular color, and by a fairly wide margin. Marina Blue finished second, with a total of 3,840 cars. Goodwood Green is a classy color, and it sits nicely on what is an elegant vehicle. This Corvette isn’t perfect, but its overall condition and history make it an impressive survivor. I believe that the bidding probably has a little way to go yet, but being a No Reserve listing, it also has the potential to spring a pleasant surprise. If you are in the market for a C2 Corvette, this one might be worth monitoring carefully.

President elect Joe Biden has a car just like this. That’s pretty cool, no?

FYI, ace, there are people here who get all worked up over anything that sounds even remotely political. I know.

Also, as nice as this car is, there is no way anyone is going to convince me that convertible top is original.

If I hadn’t been so dumb in the late eighties I’d own a ’67 Goodwood Green 427 four speed coupe that I was offered to buy for $13,000. It was a customer car that was a blast to drive in delivering it back to the owner’s house. Nice to see these cars in this condition.

Looks like a quality mid year Corvette. But dang, the green just doesn’t float my boat.

After a second look on larger screen, it appears there is green overspray in the door jambs. The RH headlight bucket opening looks wonky. And the obligatory spray bomb underneath. Still looks to have good overall integrity

Doesn’t seem to have the original master cylinder either. should have bleeders

That one looks very impressive. Color and equipment looks great to me. Only way to make it better would be have the removable hardtop for it. This is all assuming that the car checks out with a visual inspection.
I’d find room in the garage for it somehow.

As I said in an earlier post about a 356, in the sixties, why would anyone buy a frumpy 356 (or 911 for that matter) when for less money you could have this. I stand by that idea. This car is beautiful. Perfect engine to, the big block was too much and hurt the cornering.

I hate to say the 17 inch ralleys and red line tires look way better than any of the stock rims available

The passenger door armrest is cracked – do you have to replace the entire passenger door panel? New one tho may not match the rest of the aged interior.
I believe you have to do the same on 1st gen f-bodies with delux door panels, but not on those with std ones/interior, that have removable arm rest pads.
Manual steering here i guess – wonder how many turns lock to lock.
Maybe a same yr porsche is lighter & handles better & has quicker steering? Rack & pinion back then on those?

It’s beautiful! But: no power steering or brakes. I’ve driven a car like this without those options and it feels like a truck. No AC. In addition, I recall that all Corvettes came with aluminum valve covers with the Corvette script – not the red painted Chevrolet valve covers. This, and the comment about overspray make me say hmmm.

Not accurate. 327/300hp had orange valve covers. the 327/350hp model had the aluminum finned covers.

Chevy Orange steel valve covers are correct for this car. I know because I had one in 1967.

Best year for Corvette and the last year. I recall green and green was not a popular color in the 60’s. My 65 roadster was Maroon with silver leather 396 with side pipes. Heavy front end from the 396 with Mack truck steering. The only think that car did was rumble and go fast in a straight line. The handling and brakes sucked.

Question to the Corvette experts, why does a Corvette need the ignition shielding but other cars don’t? Just curious. Thanks

I believe it might have something to do with some difficulty attaching a proper grounding wire to the fiberglass body. I’m sure I will find out if I am wrong.

The purpose is to reduce ignition noise for the radio.

      • Avatar Frank Sumatra

That is the corrective action. Why was there ignition noise?

Distributor causes electronic interference with the sound of the radio. Metal hoods shield the interference, fiberglass allows the interference-thus the need for the shield over distributor.
