No Reserve: Low-Mile 1983 Toyota Land Cruiser

While Toyota’s Land Cruiser trucks are mostly collector items at this point, they have undeniable off-road capabilities, which make them one of the most iconic overlanding vehicles. This 1983 Toyota Land Cruiser is available here on eBay as part of a no reserve auction, but it’s hard to decide whether someone should make this a collection piece, or if it should see use as intended in rugged environments.

This Toyota is available in New Baltimore, Michigan with a clean title. The seller purchased the vehicle from the original owners, and most aspects of the vehicle are original and very well kept. They note that the undercarriage is free from rust issues, and also speculate that this Land Cruiser received rustproofing treatment from the factory.

The current owner had the truck repainted upon purchasing it and utilized the factory paint color when doing so. They also believe that repairs to the wheel wells and rocker panels contain body filler, and also add that while the paint looks and shines very nicely, there are small blemishes when observing it up close. I appreciate the seller’s honesty about the truck’s condition because, in pictures, it looks nearly flawless.

Meanwhile, the interior is all original and in remarkable condition. There are no rips in the seats or cracks in the dashboard, and quite frankly, the only noticeable issue is some wear to the carpets.

Under the hood, there’s a 4.2-liter inline 6-cylinder engine, which pairs to a 4-speed manual transmission and a 2-way transfer case to power all four wheels. The drivetrain has 68,914 miles on it and there are no issues present, with the seller adding that the 4-wheel-drive system functions well and that the truck handles nicely on the highway.

At the time of publication, bidding is at $27,600. How would you use this beautiful blue Land Cruiser?

I think Toyota sure made an about face with these Landcruisers. I had a FJ55, and aside from the 4wd, the similarity stops there. My FJ55 was a great truck, had a front winch, very handy, but it was nothing like this. It was a tinny, loud, hot/cold, uncomfortable, rough riding vehicle that would go through almost anything, but creature comforts were not it’s intention. This is an entirely different truck, all for the better, I must say. The fact it’s up to almost $27g’s with 29 bids, tells the story. Why buy new, when this will do?

Well, lot less safety features, parts availability, & the fact that it’s an EIGHTY-3 means poor rustproofing, compared to a new one. On the other hand, if you want a blue interior & good bumpers & much less electronic complexity & exclusivity, this is for you.
Notice the big dimple-wrinkle-indentation in the tire …

My friend has that on all 4!!! of his 12 yr old 195-75r14 sears guardsman tires – happened soon after they were 1st mounted & used! But never had a problem with those tires to this day – was told by a “tire person” that it’s not an issue, tho my friend NEVER saw that on the sidewalls of tires he got for the car in the 20th century!
      I wonder why!
Not sure if you see that on some 21st century lower profile tires.

In fact, wouldn’t be surprised if it ended up on BaT in a few months. Will keep an eye out for this one!

Nice looking 4×4 that the whole family can enjoy!! They were prone to rust like others have said and a self inspection would be recommended!!!
