No Reserve Survivor: 1988 Dodge Ramcharger

Sometimes, the pictures really do all the talking about a given car or truck that’s for sale. In the case of this 1988 Dodge Ramcharger, the listing shows what looks like a survivor-grade truck in excellent condition with fresh tires, gorgeous paint, and a mint-condition interior featuring bucket seats. The Ramcharger has been an object of desire for Dodge truck and squarebody fans everywhere for years, and nice ones like this tend to command a premium. This Dodge has just over 100,000 miles and is listed here on eBay with no reserve.

Bidding actually seems pretty light at just $9,400, but there’s plenty of time left in this auction. No word on whether the paint is original, but I will say it almost seems too nice for a truck with some miles on it. The seller doesn’t provide much of any insight into the Ramcharger’s history other than covering the basic standard features, so we don’t know if this clean squarebody benefits from a respray. The two-tone look was pretty typical on K5 Blazers and Ramchargers alike, and it’s totally period-correct. The Ramcharger doesn’t appear to ride on aftermarket suspension so one can reasonably assume it’s completely stock.

The interior is pretty mind-blowing. It’s in beautiful condition with near-perfect bucket seats and clean red carpeting. It comes with the factory message center, power windows, power door locks, air conditioning, a locking glove box, and the original AM/FM radio. The backseat literally looks like it was never used. The Ramcharger presents not like a truck with 100K miles but one with half that. Between the upholstery and the paint quality, I’m inclined to say this truck has been restored, but the seller’s listing doesn’t dive into those details. Whatever the story is, this Ramcharger has been loved.

Under the hood is a 5.2L V8 engine that looks pretty clean with no attempts made at modifications. The seller doesn’t detail any recent services like belt jobs or fluid changes, and it would go a long ways toward inspiring some confidence that this Ramcharger isn’t too good to be true. Of course, that begs the question: if it looked this clean, but the mechanical history couldn’t be verified, would you still be interested? I tend to place a lot of faith (sometimes too much) in the way the truck is presented by the current owner, and in this case, I see a lot of pride in how clean this rig is.

Reminds me of one my Dad owned. The way he’d take care of his vehicles, you’d never know it had that many miles. But I’d want some more info from the seller. Definitely a lot you could do with the 318 to squeeze a little more power out of it. I just finished a mechanical restoration of my 77 Ramcharger with a 440, nothing sounds better. Great under-appreciated trucks!

This truck shows meticulous care and I wouldn’t be surprised if the paint and interior are original. A buddy of mine had a older factory 440 Ram charger. Medium blue, dk blue interior, small lift and tires that filled the wheel wells, very nice, quick SUV before they were SUV’s.

Original or restored? Look no further than the armrest attached to the driver’s seat. It’s flawless. These were always bent and distorted long before 100,000 miles. This is a very well-executed restoration, in my opinion.

A well-cared-for original with an armest replaced at some point.

Most around my area had lots of electrical issues, compared to Blazer and Broncos.

I had one just like this , loved it for 9 years , towed , pushed snow , off road , it did every thing I ask it to do , finally rust ( upstate NY) ended it for me . this unit looks nice , hope it finds a good home

A very nice restoration, with a lot of attention to detail. Looks like lots of new parts as well, like the materials inside and new shiny mirrors. The engine bay needs a refresh, but that’s not the end of the world at least. Too bad they ditched the side badges and the trim for the liftgate, but at least those can be replaced off of eBay or Facebook Marketplace for pretty cheap.
