Not A Tease: 1972 Mustang Barn Find

mustang

Unlike the recently featured 1972 Mustang “teaser” the ad for this car clearly shows the whole car and it’s problems. Reader VaTex sent us this find out of Cogan Station, Pennsylvania. It’s for sale here on craigslist with a $5,000 asking price. I like that it’s mainly wearing original paint; given the rust that’s showing I doubt there are many surprises with this car; you know you’re in for some restoration work! It’s been sitting in a barn since 1992. The seller has included a full set of pictures including undercarriage views from when the car was on a lift. There are pretty good descriptions as to where the rust is as well. I know these larger cars are not as beloved as the early Mustangs, but this one has a rare set of options, with air conditioning and a host of power equipment. Unfortunately, the ram air parts fitted from the factory are no longer present. The price seems a little high to me for this car even though it’s running, but I’m interested in what you folks think–let us know in the comments below.

This looks like it should be getting junked in the (original) Gone in 60 Seconds.

“Car runs good” and engine runs are not the same thing!

Car does not need to be trailered? Guess it’s ok to tow since fuel tank is out I only see one poor pic of the engine and thats from the bottom. Definitely would have to inspect
in person. In my opinion something just doesn’t seem right for that price. A 69 Mach yes, but not here.

Actually not a bad deal. This Mustang is one step away from a BOSS 351 and although it’s not a 4spd car and the interior color is not my first choice, that cleveland can really pack a punch with just a minor amount of tweaking. The structural areas don’t seem to be eaten away and the rusted beat up look is pretty cool. I have been restoring and playing with the ’67 thru ’70 years my entire life and I’m a big FE fan so I have no interest in this one but $5k for real muscle is cheap. I’d sort out the engine with some real HP adders and take care of the rest of the mechanicals and drive as-is, rust and all.

I’m digging the patina as well. I’m pretty bored with nice over restored cars. The interior on this one is surprisingly decent. Were it closer I’d consider it. Has a nice Mad Max ratty muscle car vibe that I really dig.

I was skeptical about the mileage as well but after seeing that what looks like the original single exhaust and the wear on the brake pad, I think that the mileage is correct.

I would say that with the options this Mach has its defiantly worth saving. I see there are a lot of haters on here for this year car which I think are undeserved. My first car was a 73 Mach that I bought in 78 and i ran the hell out of that car. The 2bbl Cleveland in that car ran better than the stock 4bbl 350s and 340s of those years, I know because my friends had them. These cars are climbing in value and only have one way to go and that is up.
